POWER UP Program What is the POWER UP program? Program Mission Reinvest money into local communities Providing bill-pay assistance Community grants (Non-Profit & Civic)
POWER UP Program How does it work? Fund Collection Collection began July 2011 GVEC electric bills are rounded up from participating members POWER UP Community Fund
POWER UP Program Where does the money go? Fund Distribution Approx. 20% Member bill-pay assistance Low-income and/or elderly Must qualify and meet guidelines Distributed by local Councils of Government Approx. 80% Community grants Eligible Non-profit groups
POWER UP Program Who can apply for a POWER UP Grant? Community non-profit improvement projects with tax exempt status Education Youth Programs Health Care Community Development Civic & Community Outreach Public Safety/Service Organizations
POWER UP Program Who is eligible to receive the POWER UP Grant? Grant Eligibility Requirements Projects must lie within GVEC service boundaries The organization must contribute towards the community s health and/or welfare Services must be non-discriminatory in nature Projects must be: Capital in nature (long term asset) New project oriented No standard, ongoing projects, programs, or activities will be eligible
POWER UP Program Who isn t eligible? Completed projects Debt-reduction campaigns Scholarship programs Other grant programs Religious or church- sponsored facilities limited to membership General operating costs (i.e. salary/payroll expenses) Office or administrative projects and equipment Land acquisition projects Computer equipment or software for non- educational purposes Training for software or new equipment Organizations which are for-profit entities, individuals, and professional associations

POWER UP Program What are the application requirements? Project description Project timeline Project budget Include bid proposals or estimates for any items over $1,000 IRS tax-exemption letter List of organization s Board of Directors and their addresses Letters of support List of matching funds with supporting documentation List of in-kind support with supporting documentation Property owner s signature on the application
POWER UP Program Where can we apply? Applications are located online: Web-based submission Upload attachments Download a hardcopy
