Ann an/Ann am Difference between the two spellings Ann am is used before letters b/p/f/m (This can be remembered by using phrase Big Fat Mashed Potato) Ann an is used before all other letters e.g. ann an Inbhir Nis BUT ann am F obha

Tuiseal Tabhartach Dative Case You may have noticed that some places require the preposition ANNS AN/A before them, as opposed to ann an/am . This is what happens when the preposition precedes a definite article, e.g. Tha Paras anns an Fhraing or Tha Cardiff anns a Chuimrigh Anns an comes before the letters d/f/n/r/l or before a vowel Anns a (+ lenition) before all other letters
