OVERVIEW -How to ask what time is it. Qu hora es? -Read now about how to tell the time for the first half hour: Son las dos y diez (=2:10) addition, son las cuatro y veinte (4:20) -Es Mediod a (it's noon) es medianoche (It's midnight) -Notice: Es la una and Son las dos (en punto= o'clock) -And for the second half hour: Son las tres menos diez (2:50) substraction (=It is three minus ten) Son la diez menos cuarto (9:45)
OVERVIEW -Notice the difference between telling the time and expressing the time of an event: Son las cinco y cuarto (It's a quarter after five) La clase es a las diez y media (...it's at...) Yo regreso a casa a las seis (I return home at 6) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Expressions for telling time: As usual, you must practice and memorize them. Example: Son las diez de la ma ana/de la noche (...in the morning/evening) Son las cuatro de la tarde (.....in the afternoon) Other expressions: es (muy) tarde (it's (very) late) es (muy) temprano (it's (very) early)
PRACTICE Translate the following sentences into Spanish: 1. At what time is the concert? (concierto) 2. The concert is at 10:30 p.m 3. It s 10:52 a.m 4. The French class is at 3:30 p.m 5. It s one fifteen p.m ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answers: 1. A qu hora es el concierto? 2.
