LED STREETLIGHTS Preparing our Community for the Future Another Initiative Town Board Presentation August 14, 2018
Mid-Hudson Streetlight Consortium A project supported by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) with ultimate goal to convert as many municipalities to LED as quickly as possible. Buying power through group discount Simplified procurement Educate and support municipalities
LED- Light-Emitting Diodes use less energy and last longer!
Why the interest in LEDs? The U.S Department of Energy estimates that widespread adoption of LED lighting by 2025 will: Reduce electricity demands from lighting by 62 percent Eliminate 258 million metric tons of carbon emissions Reduce the amount of materials being put into landfills Avoid the building of 133 new power plants Save the US over $280 billion 4

New York Power Authority (NYPA) Selected by the Mid Hudson Streetlight Consortium after sending out RFP Designated by Governor Andrew Cuomo to lead the Smart Street Lighting NY Program-goal of converting 500,000 streetlights in NY by 2025. Have already converted 300,000. A not for profit utility established in 1931 Largest state power organization in the United States
Current Light Inventory Central Hudson bills us for 73 light fixtures 42 for maintenance and energy (CH owned) 31 for only energy (Town Owned)
