  2. Legal Problems Accumulate for Trump New York Attorney General Leticia James announced that her office was filing suit against former President Trump and three of his adult children. James alleges that the former president and his family engaged in persistent and repeated business fraud for a period of twenty years that led to windfall profits. James is seeking $250 million in damages and a prohibition that would prevent any of the Trumps from leading a business in the state of New York. It remained to be seen if criminal charges might follow the civil case. Which former Trump advisor did James credit at the press conference? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wESMw6qEDJk 2

  3. Legal Problems Accumulate for Trump The lawsuit in New York state compounded the former president s legal problems. The Eleventh Circuit Court overturned an injunction by a lower court which had prevented the Department of Justice from continuing its investigation related to the classified documents retrieved at Mar-a-Lago. Mr. Trump is also being investigated in Georgia for his effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election in that state. Furthermore, the January 6th House Select Committee is set to resume hearings this week that will likely further implicate the former president. Which U.S. senator has refused to testify in the Georgia investigation? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRTW6Pvv68I 3

  4. Background and Key Concepts Former President Trump was the subject of numerous investigations and was twice impeached during his four-year term. The January 6th siege of the U.S. capital and numerous attempts by the former president to overturn the results of the 2020 election ensured that investigations would continue post-presidency. The U.S. House established a select committee to probe the events of January 6th and has conducted a series of high-profile public hearings. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has empaneled a grand jury to investigate Trump and his associates for attempting to change the state results of the 2020 election. New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have carried out concurrent investigations into the Trump Organization s business dealings. AG James announced a civil lawsuit against the former president and his children seeking $250 million in damages and barring them from doing business in the state of New York. 4
