Lessons from the Kings Elijah: Knowing The Next Step 1 Kings 17:1; 2-7
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, I stand before Him, and there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 2 Then a revelation from the LORD came to him: 3 Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself at the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan. 4 You are to drink from the wadi. I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 5 So he did what the LORD commanded. Elijah left and lived by the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan. 6 The ravens kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, and he drank from the wadi.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 7 After a while, the wadi dried up because there had been no rain in the land. -1 Kings 1 7:1 -7 (HCSB)
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Am I prepared for the next thing? Do I know what the next step is? How do I know?
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step How did Elijah know that his declaration, that it will not rain, would come true? Thus says the LORD!
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 1 4 Now this is the confidence we have before Him: Whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 5 And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for. -1 John 5:1 4-1 5
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step How do you know what is God s will? Read the Bible (2 Tim. 3:1 6) Pray, Pray
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 1 6 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. -2 Timothy 3:1 6
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step If you do not read Scripture, you do not know God or His ways. Without reading the Scriptures you are incomplete and ill-equipped. A righteous man knows the will of God and His ways.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 1 7 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours; yet he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land. -James 5:1 7
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 1 5 The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will restore him to health; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 1 6 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. -James 5:1 5-1 6
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Obviously Elijah was a man of faith Elijah confessed his sins to a brother/sister and God Elijah was righteous because he had a powerful effect!
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Wisdom is having the presence of the mind of the Holy Spirit which means knowing the next thing to do.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Ask according to God s will and you will have what is asked for. Sometimes God does not want it to rain.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step God s will may be that you go through the crisis but He will still provide. The question is: Do I trust Him to?
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step God can use the detestable things to bless the righteous.
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Why did God tell Elijah to go to the Kerith Ravine? He was being protected from King Ahab who was hunting for him. (1 Kgs. 1 8:1 0) He would be provided for (food & water). He would be prepared for the next
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step Has God ever led you to the Kerith Ravine?
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step 7 Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? 1 0 For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but He does it for our benefit, so that we can share His holiness. Hebrews 1 2:7, 1 0
Elijah: Knowing the Next Step We can know that God brings us to the Kerith Ravine in our lives, to protect, to provide, and to prepare us for the next step of holiness and righteousness He has for us. Are we willing to follow?
