Leukemoid reaction
Leukemoid reactions are characterized by the appearance of immature white blood cells in peripheral blood with total W.B.C count exceeding 25,000/cumm. Causes include infections, infiltrative diseases like myeloma, intoxication, severe hemorrhage, and hemolysis. Leukemoid Reactions Appearance of immature white blood cells in the peripheral blood with total W.B.C count exceeding 25,000 /cumm but < 1.0 lakhs / cumm Anemia : Usually absent Platelets : Normal Nucleated RBC may be present
Leukemoid Reactions Myeloid leukemoid reaction - Causes : 1.Infections 2.Infiltrative diseases : Myeloma,Myelofibrosis,Metastasis 3.Intoxication : Eclampsia, Severe Burns etc 4.Severe Hemorrhage 5.Severe Hemolysis
Leukemoid Reactions Lymphoid leukemoid reaction : Lymphocytosis with immature lymphoid series Causes : 1.Infectious mononucleosis 2.Chronic infections 3.Whooping cough 4. Measles 5. Disseminated Tuberculosis
Leukemoid Reaction CML > 40 yrs Prominent > 1 lakh / cumm All stages of maturation with myeloid peak Very low / Absent Present Transformation to Acute leukemia Age : Any age Splenomegaly: +/- TLC: 25000-1 lakh/ cum DLC: Neutrophils with mild shift to left LAP Score : High Ph Chr : Absent No transformation to Acute leukemia
