The Project The Project Help public libraries make software and hardware improvements to maximize benefits to patrons as they access the Internet. Supported with $1M California Library Services Act funding allocated in the Governor s FY 16/17 budget.

Project Partners Project Partners California State Library Program management and oversight. Southern California Library Cooperative Fiscal Agent for the grant program. Advisory Group Advises on the development of the project, helped to develop the application materials, and will review submitted applications.

Project Goals Project Goals Support the development of innovative and creative programs and services for all ages. Address the needs of libraries in underserved communities. Provide a variety of programming and service models for the library community to learn from and replicate.
Eligibility Eligibility Participate as a public library in the California Library Services Act CalREN connectivity not required CIPA compliance not required Implement three programs using new technology by December 2018 Up to three applications per jurisdiction: 1-30 outlets: 1 application 31-60 outlets: up to 2 applications 61-100 outlets: up to 3 applications Apply for a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $30,000 per app Matching funds are required
Use of Project Funds: Some Examples Use of Project Funds: Some Examples Virtual reality game creation, audio production (including music mixing and recording), coding, filmmaking and videography, hack-a-thons, mobile and game app development, programming, robotics, 3D printing, access points and hotspots to expand WiFi outside of library walls, laptop checkout kiosks, live streaming or iPad storytime, SmartBoards, ebook instruction webinars, taking the library service away from the desk (e.g. roving reference and technology to support pop-up programs), technology classrooms, and virtual class visits, reference, storytime, and speakers.
Matching Funds Matching Funds Matching Funds are required: combination of cash and in-kind contributions. The level of match required depends on the library s Local Income Per Capita (LIPC) LIPC Level 1: a minimum of 25% LIPC Level 2: a minimum of 35% LIPC Level 3: a minimum of 50%
Evaluation Evaluation Project Outcome survey tools. Tools will be available to participating libraries. The California State Library and Project Outcome will provide an informational webinar, resources, and support.
Application Form Application Form Project Overview Should describe the scope of your project and let us know, concisely, how you will spend your funds and what benefit(s) the project will provide. Further Information: Technology and Programs Describe clearly and briefly the technology you will purchase and programs you will present Needs statement Show that the technology and programs you propose meet a need in your community and be clear about how the need was identified.
Application Form Application Form Preparations Describe the steps you have taken to assess your physical space, engage relevant staff, and ensure you can maintain and continue to use your technology beyond the grant period. Role of IT staff Describe the role your IT staff and/or contractors will play in purchasing and/or implementing your new technology.
Application Form Application Form Community Partners List the community partners you will work with and describe the role they will play and the resources they will contribute. Outputs E.g. the number of programs you propose to provide and the anticipated number of people they will impact. Continuation and Sustainability How you will continue to utilize your new technology beyond the project period.

Budget Table and Narrative Please be sure to include the funds you are requesting and the matching funds you are providing. Please provide information as concisely and clearly as possible.
