The Liceo Scientifico Marconi makes available to all students: Scientific and IT laboratories; a design laboratory; a linguistic laboratory; a traditional and multimedia library; a multifunctional gymnasium; extensive recreational green areas for sports activities .
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL The Liceo Scientifico Guglielmo Marconi was founded in 1937. It is located in Foggia, a medium-size town in Puglia, in the South of Italy and is based on three sites, two of them within a short walk of each other and a third one in Accadia, a small town 50 km far from Foggia. It has a present school population of 1104 pupils and 94 permanent teachers. The Liceo Marconi has an impressive track record of preparing its students for specialist studies in science-related fields. At the same time it offers a broad and balanced curriculum which enables students to go on to post- secondary education but not to study science.
THE CURRICULUM Since 2017 the curriculum has been enriched by two optional subjects: Computing and Economy. From 2018, the Liceo Marconi will offer three new plans of study: a biomedical course, a linguistic course and a four-year lyceum. The former will provide the students with a general background in Biology and Health Sciences forming the basis for future professional and academic goals. In the linguistic course Chemistry, Biology and Physics will be delivered in English, the teaching of English will be enhanced and a second language (Spanish) will be taught. Alongside the use of English as the language of tuition in subjects such as Science and Physics, innovative didactic techniques and tools (Team working, Cooperative learning, Peer tutoring, Debate, CLIL, Flipped classroom, e- learning platforms) will be adopted in the four-year lyceum in order to create a unique and stimulating educational context.
THE PROJECT EXTREME ENERGY EVENTS The Liceo Scientifico Guglielmo Marconi joined the Project Extreme Energy Events in 2017; the first activity we were involved in was the International Cosmic Day (ICD) on November 30. Our contribution to the event has been collected in the Booklet ICD17 and has been reported in the following slide.
Liceo Scientifico G.Marconi Foggia ITALY Abstract On November 30, 2017, the Department of Physics of the University of Bari hosted the 6th edition of the International Cosmic Day . The goal of this event was to investigate the zenith angle dependency of particle showers induced by cosmic rays. Experimental Setup The data analysed were those acquired by the Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chambers telescope installed Staffa Trinitapoli (TRIN-01from2017-11-22to2017-11-22.csv). in Liceo S. (2) Results (3) (1) (4) Conclusions The angular zenith distribution should behave like a sin function (graph 1), but the Earth s atmosphere influences it so that it behaves like a sin cos2 function (graph 2). Graph (3) shows the effect of the atmosphere upon cosmic rays spreading out with angles lower than 40 due to the telescope angular acceptance. The experimental data to MC ratio behaves like the cos2 function as the zenith angle changes. The same data are plotted in a linear form with a regression line (graph 4).Since the coefficient R2 (coefficient of determination) is 0.8976,this means that the 89,76% of data points fall within the results of the line of the regression equation, thus confirming the hypothesis.
