Judas commits suicide Acts 1:18 (Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. 19 And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.)

  5. Pilate Pontius Pilate has been enshrined forever in the cowards Hall of Shame. Though he knew the charges against Jesus Christ were void of substance, because of his spineless politicism, he delivered the Son of God over to the rebellious Jews for crucifixion.

  6. Pilate But both Philo and Josephus paint a very stark portrait of the Roman ruler. Pilate is characterized as oppressive, greedy, stubborn, and cruel.

  7. Pilate Philo specifically catalogs his venality, his violence, his thefts, his assaults, his abusive behavior, his frequent executions of untried prisoners, and his endless savage ferocity (Gaium 302), though some claim Philo exaggerated the matter. Nonetheless, Pilate did antagonize the Jews, and they hated him.

  8. Trial before Pilate The Jews take Jesus to the praetorium Praetorium refers to the palace of Pontius Pilate, the Roman procurator of Judea. According to the New Testament, this is where Jesus Christ was tried and condemned to death. The Bible refers to the Praetorium as the "common hall," the "governor's house," the "judgment hall," "Pilate's house," and the "palace." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praetorium

  9. Trial before Pilate Very early on Friday morning Jews would not enter the house of a Gentile lest they be defiled during the feast time Pilate comes out to meet them asking what the prisoner has done if he were not an evil doer, would we have brought him to you? (John 18:30) But you can reject and kill the Son of God, the Christ?

  10. Trial before Pilate Pilate told them to deal with Him according to their law But it is not legal for us to put a man to death Luke 23:2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King."

  11. Trial before Pilate Pilate asks Jesus if He is the king of the Jews Are you asking this or have you heard it? My kingdom is not of this world. Then you are a king? Yes, that is why I came into this world. Jesus IS our KING!

  12. Trial before Pilate Pilate returns to tell the Jews he finds no fault in Jesus In their reply they mention Jesus came from Galilee Pilate sees an out Herod Antipas, ruler of Galilee, is in Jerusalem for the feast Pilate sends Jesus to Herod

  13. Jesus before Antipas Herod wanted to see Jesus do a miracle Jesus made no response to Herod s questions Lu 23:10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. Herod and his soldiers mocked Jesus Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate Herod and Pilate became friends

  14. Before Pilate again Pilate told the Jews that neither he nor Herod had found any fault in Jesus Pilate offers to scourge Him and release Him Pilate s wife tells him to have nothing to do with Jesus Finds no fault, yet Pilate is willing to scourge Him???

  15. Before Pilate again Pilate normally releases a prisoner at the feast each year He offers to release Jesus or Barabbas The Jews want Barabbas released A murderer and insurrectionist What do I do with Jesus? Crucify Him!!!

  16. But the governor said to them, Which of the two do you want me to release to you? Ecce Homo, by Antonio Ciseri, circa 1860 1880 27:21

  17. Roman scourging Flogging was a legality preliminary to every Roman execution, and only women and Roman senators or soldiers (except in cases of desertion) were exempt. The usual instrument was a short whip (flagellum) with several single or braided leather thongs of variable lengths, in which small iron balls or sharp pieces of sheep bones were tied at intervals.

  18. Roman scourging Occasionally, staves also were used. For scourging, the man was stripped of his clothing, and his hands were tied to an upright post. The back, buttocks, and legs were flogged either by two soldiers (lictors) or by one who alternated positions.

  19. Roman scourging The severity of the scourging depended on the disposition of the lictors and was intended to weaken the victim to a state just short of collapse or death. After the scourging, the soldiers often taunted their victim. XX

  20. Roman soldiers mocking After the scourging remember Jesus was very near death at this point The soldiers put a robe on Him, and a crown made from thorns They bow before Him mocking Him, spit on Him, and slap Him What is Jesus thinking during all of this? What is the Father thinking during all of this? What is Satan thinking during all of this?

Hebrews 10:28-29

  24. Hebrews 10:28-29 Heb 10:28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
