Accomplishments Lionel Messi rose from his life in Argentina to become one of today's leading and respected soccer players. He played with the Barcelona and Argentina national team. Family Life Lionel Messi was born Luis Lionel Andres Messi, on June 24th, 1987. He was born to a working-class family in Rosario Argentina. His father, Jorge Messi, was a factory steel worker, and his mother, Celia, was a cleaner. He has three siblings, two older brothers, Rodrigo and Matias, and a sister Maria. Early Life Lionel's father ran the local football club, where he started his childhood years as a football player. Lionel tried to keep up with his older brothers and would follow along whenever his brothers would play football with their friends. In primary school, he was shy in the classroom, but showed his natural talent when he played football with his classmates. At the age of 10, Lionel suffered from a hormone deficiency that restricted his growth, and he needed to receive special treatment
Timeline In 1995, at the age of 8 he joined a Rosario-based top- division youth football club. At the age of 13 he and his family relocated to Barcelona, and he began playing for FC Barcelona's under-14 team. In 2004-2005, Lionel at the age of 17 became the youngest official player and goal scorer in the country s highest division of football. Lionel has also given back to the less fortunate.
