The respected and well-known church in Sardis is called to repent and strengthen its faith. The ruins of the temple of Artemis, the gymnasium, and the synagogue in Sardis reflect the historical significance of this ancient city. The synagogue, the largest of its kind, embodies the high status of the Jewish community in Sardis. 1. Revelation 3:1-6 Sardis RESPECTABLE AND WELL KNOWN CHURCH, LISTEN TO YOUR LORD!

  2. Ruins of the temple of Artemis at Sardis

  3. The Gymnasium of Sardis

  4. Synagogue at Sardis

  5. The synagogue in Sardis is the largest of its type known to date. Excavations show that the building was originally a civic basilica which was built between the main street and the gymnasium and converted into a synagogue sometime between 150-350 C.E. Its unusually large dimensions and rich decoration, as well as the titles of the Jews mentioned in the inscriptions here, show the high status that the Jewish community in Sardis held.

  6. And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. (Revelation 3:1)

  7. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. (Revelation 3:2)

  8. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (Revelation 3:3)

  9. Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy. (Revelation 3:4)

  10. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Revelation 3:5-6)
