  1. L.E.A.R.N. Evangelism Means To: LISTEN Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit

  2. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER George Mueller said: I never remember, in all my Christian course, a period now (in March, 1895) of sixty-nine years and four months, that I ever sincerely and patiently sought to know the will of God by the teaching of the Holy Spirit, through the instrumentality of the Word of God, but I have been always directed rightly. But if honesty of heart and uprightness before God were lacking, or if I did not patiently wait upon God for instruction, or if I preferred the counsel of my fellow men to the declarations of the Word of the living God, I made great mistakes.

  3. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER We listen best when: 1. We are quiet 2. We are reading God s Word 3. We are praying for God s direction John 16:13 (ESV), 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.

  4. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER We must also listen when other people speak: 1. They feel strongly about what they believe 2. Many life events helped form their beliefs Name two things that impacted your life 3. We must respect the beliefs of other people We want people to respect what we believe 4. When we listen, it means that we value how they feel Always look at someone when you are listening

  5. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER We must also listen when other people speak: 5. The Lord may use our actions to teach other people about Christians. 6. The Holy Spirit may use what they say to speak to us about ways to share the Gospel with them 7. The Holy Spirit may lead us to ask specific questions: Do you have any faith background? Are you really happy with your life right now? Do you ever think about spiritual issues?

  6. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER Rebecca Pippert shared: I believe that much of our evangelism is ineffective because we depend too much upon technique and strategy. Evangelism has slipped into the sales department. I am convinced that we must look at Jesus, and the quality of life he calls us to, as a model for what to believe and how to reach out to others.

  7. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER God alone transforms lives and we need Him to lead and guide our faith conversations. The more we listen to the Holy Spirit and read God s word, the more we will grow in faith. Hudson Taylor was such a man 1. Called to the Chinese people 2. Left everything 3. Became a man of prayer the seed to success

  8. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER Hudson Taylor discovered: the strengthening of faith was not by striving for faith, but by resting on the Faithful One.

  9. LISTENING IS A GREAT TEACHER Resting in faith is a result of a relationship built on prayer. James 5:16, The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Like Elijah who had great faith! James 5:17, Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. We can also do miracles of faith through Christ!

  10. WHAT YOU CAN DO! 1. Begin a devotion and prayer time. It does not have to be long, but it should be consistent to help prayer become a part of your day. 2. Thank God for what He has done, then share your requests with Him, and finally take time to listen. Write down what you feel the Holy Spirit is speaking to you about especially in the area of sharing the gospel.

  11. WHAT YOU CAN DO! 3. Begin praying about what a time of sharing with others might look like in your life. Begin praying for places and people that you might see or visit during a typical week and ask the Lord whether He wants to use you to speak in those situations. 4. When the Holy Spirit does nudge you, make sure you write down what happened so that you can look back and learn from your experiences. Rest assured, the Holy Spirit is still nudging folks today. a. Why is this important?

  12. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT? What is the role of the Holy Spirit? 1. He is the agent of salvation 2. He is our spiritual guide 3. He is our Helper - even in our weakness We are not alone in our evangelism efforts 4. He is our teacher and illuminator
