  3. Dr. Ernest Boyer (1928-1995) Education Doctorate in Speech Pathology from the University of Southern California. Postdoctoral Fellowship in medical audiology at the University of Iowa Hospital. Started his career in Higher Education First as a professor, then in administration, and Ending as the Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY). (Encyclopedia.com, 2019; Goldberg, 1995)

  4. Dr. Ernest Boyer (1928-1995) Cont Finished in Policy and Research In 1977, he became the 23rd Commissioner of Education, under President Carter. He finished his career as the President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Some Accomplishments Created non-campus College for Working Adults at SUNY. First to connect strong High Schools to College Success. Created January term for Colleges. In1990, he published Scholarship Reconsidered which introduced Boyer s Model of Scholarship. (Encyclopedia.com, 2019; Goldberg, 1995)

Research or creation in the arts Implementing your own research, Examining other s research, or Creating something new in the Arts. Presentation of the results to others Through publications, Workshops, Performances, Conferences, Etc.

  7. Scholarship of Discovery Traditionally thought of as Scholarship The development of new knowledge for its own sake, through sound inquiry and methods. Discovery contributes to the knowledge stock but also the intellectual climate of a university and society (University of Phoenix Research Hub, 2019). The development and innovation of new information or understanding through experimentations or creation of new performance or media in the arts. Can be a experimental studies Can be artistic performances. Can be exploration for new information.

  8. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning What we, as good educators do through research and discussions with our working peers. The study of teaching models and practices to achieve optimal learning through: 1) general pedagogical development, 2) classroom research, and 3) pedagogical content knowledge (University of Phoenix Research Hub, 2019). Research of how students best learn and how we can improve the pedagogy of our teaching. - Can be research of what others have discovered, applying it to your teaching, and evaluating how it goes. Can be research and analysis of what others have discovered about a certain aspect of teaching. Can be research about new ways to present knowledge and understanding.

  9. Scholarship of Application The scholarship of application occurs at the intersection of academics and practitioners, who collaboratively seek ways to put knowledge to work improving society. Scholarship of application is sometimes referred to as the scholarship of practice, engagement, or service (University of Phoenix Research Hub, 2019). Supporting others in understanding research results and how it connects to what they are doing professionally. Can be presentations to explain theory to professionals who need to apply it. Can be applying what is known to solve problems which are occurring. Can be artist interpretations of a type of the Arts.

  10. Scholarship of Integration The scholarship of integration creates connections across disciplines by situating isolated facts within the larger body of knowledge, both within and across areas of research and including global initiatives (University of Phoenix Research Hub, 2019). Making connections between different areas to create new understanding and perspectives. Can be combining research from different areas which are not usually put together, even though professionals use them together. Can be performances of combining different areas of the arts which are not usually combined. Can be combining theories from different areas to solve problems which are occurring.
