  3. L.O.S.S. First Responder Team What is it? A team of trained survivors and counselors acting in a volunteer capacity who go to the scene of a suicide to disseminate information about resources and to be an instillation of hope for the newly bereaved. 3

  4. L.O.S.S. First Responder Team Why is it important? Survivors of suicide are more likely to take their life. Reduction in length of time from loss to getting help. There are thousands of survivors across Ohio including many in ________ county. 4

  5. L.O.S.S. First Responder Team What is the history? The first team was launched in 1998 in Baton Rouge, LA. Numerous teams have since launched. Documentary Survivors of Suicide: those left behind on the L.O.S.S. model was aired on the Discovery Channel in 2004. Multiple L.O.S.S. teams exist in Ohio. Key initiative for Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services 5

  6. L.O.S.S. First Responder Team Are there results where teams are currently implemented? Significant reduction in time between loss and getting help. Law enforcement and coroner s offices three-fold impact.
