A few years ago, the city of Lubbock voted to allow electricity competition (deregulation/ privatization) in the area. Starting late summer 2023, electricity customers in Lubbock Power & Light (LP&L) area will be able to shop around for cheaper electricity prices. Electricity deregulation is expected to enable electricity consumers to lower their current LP&L electricity bills by up to 30%. If You DO NOT Choose a Provider If You DO Choose a Provider Customers who DO NOT choose a provider will be assigned a Default Retail Electricity Provider (DREP) at a variable rate, which is likely to be higher than the current prices offered by Lubbock Power & Light Customers who DO choose a REP during the specified timeframe will begin service with their chosen provider in October/November 2023.
