Luke The Beloved Physician Luke 1: 1 - 4
Known as the author of both Luke (a biography of Jesus Christ) and Acts. Who was Theophilus? Means lover of God Other than this fact, we can only know he was a man Luke respected, and who needed to know the certainty of those things, wherein [he] had been instructed. Having been instructed of the life of Jesus Christ, Luke then informed Theophilus of the church of Christ Acts 1: 1 - 8
While we know him to have been a fellow servant with the apostle Paul, he writes in third person . Colossians 4:14 -- Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you. It reveals his occupation, but we know nothing of his practice of medicine. His biography of Jesus includes more of the miracles of healing than any of the four biographies. Thus, his interest in medicine is strongly suggested.
He remained a faithful servant of Paul 2 Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. Demus had forsaken this group ( having loved this present world and departed into Thessalonica; others were sent to various locations. LUKE remained with Paul. We know only this fact! See also Philemon 1:24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
Not an Israelite. A doctor of the body. A lover of others who needed Christ Jesus. A faithful fellow worker with the pioneers of the Lord s work! Might he, by these truths, also have become a DOCTOR OF SOULS? As Christians, should be anything LESS!
