Was born in Australia in 1956 She did her undergraduate degree in History with Philosophy at the University of Melbourne Then she went to study in Germany at the University of T bingen (in German, of course!) It was at King s College, University of London that she did her doctorate degree. After working at Royal Holloway, University of London, she moved to be Fellow and Tutor in History at Balliol College, University of Oxford. In 2011 she was appointed Regius Professor of History at the University of Oxford. This is one of the highest jobs in academic history in the UK and Lyndal Roper is the first women to hold the post, and also (she thinks!) the first Australian. The image of the witch across Europe was remarkably consistent: "she was an old woman, and she attacked young children. Historians used to think that the Church accused people of witchcraft. Lyndal Roper s research shows that it was neighbours who accused old women they did not like.
