Main Findings 628 unlicensed Tobacco/Vape/Headshops stores within California. Product safety and health accounted for 10.1% (n=1178) of comments. Product safety and health Yelp comments reveal sub-themes in hospitalization, death, emergency room, doctor visits, reporting symptoms, fake merchandise, expired products and defective products. 2
Introduction Methods Yelp is a crowd-sourced business listing website that gives consumers the ability to partake in evaluating a business which in turn helps other consumers to choose products and/or services offered by a business. These reviews and/or ratings provide valuable insight on consumer perceptions of the service/products pertaining to the business. Reviews specific to tobacco and/or vape shops can help assist regulators in identifying businesses that do not follow legal guidelines to sell tobacco products. Data Collection - Obtain CDTFA (California Department of Tax and Fee Administration) active licensed tobacco retailers & individual licensed list Data. Data Processing - Cross referenced CDTFA data with yelp business based on street number and zip number. - Filter the categories vape , tobacco , and headshops to extract tobacco and/or vape specific storefronts. Analysis - Manually coded for content analysis to confirm the following themes - Adverse Events - Product Quality - Counterfeit Merchandise - Underage Selling - Fraudulent Transaction - Customer Service 3

Future Direction Current Study Future Study We focused on legal licensed Distinguish which stores are vape retailers, licensed individuals, and specific or a combination of unlicensed vendors tobacco related stores. We focus on low-rated comments Identify to see if clusters of (1 and 2 Stars) for themes themes are only happening within a specific county of California. 5
