  2. JAPAN Japan is located in east Asia. It has 127 million residents. About 9.1 million live in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

  3. LANGUAGES More than 99% of the country s population speaks Japanese. Japanese writing uses kanji and two sets of kana (Hiragana and katakana). The Japanese- Ryukyuan language family includes the Japanese language spoken on the main islands of Japan as well as the Ryukyuan languages spoken in the Ryukyu Islands. Nowadays, a few children speak this traditional languages.

  4. SIGHTS Japan is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. You can see the natural beauty of Japan all year long. Almost all of the historical sites are still used for their original purposes while remaining open to the public.

  5. Golden Pavilion The Temple of the Golden Pavilion is the most popular tourist attraction in Japan.

  6. HISTORY Japan first appears in written history in the Chinese Book of Han. According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, the most powerful kingdom on the archipelago during the third century was called Yamataikoku. In 1956 Japan becomes a member of The United Nations. In 1964 Olympic games are held in Tokyo. In 2011 a magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Japan.

  7. RELIGION Japan has full religious freedom based on Article 20 of its Constitution. According to researches conducted 84 96 percent of the Japanese population subscribe to Shinto as its indigenous religion. Christianity was first introduced into Japan in 1542. Today, fewer than 1% to 2.3% are Christians. Most of them living in the western part of the country

  8. CUISINE Japanese cuisine is based on combining staple foods, typically Japanese rice or noodles, with a soup.

  9. RAMEN Ramen is a Japanese dish. It consists of Chinese- style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish- based broth.

  10. CELEBRATIONS Japanese festivals are traditional festive occasions. Some festivals have their roots in Chinese festivals from centuries ago, but have undergone great changes as they mixed with Japan s local customs. Some are so different that do not even remotely resemble the original festival despite sharing the same name and date.

  11. ART Japanese comics, known as manga, developed in the 20th century and have become popular worldwide. Rakuten Kitazawa was first to use the word "manga" in the modern sense. Japanese-made video game consoles have been popular since the 1980s. Japanese animated films and television series, known as anime, were largely influenced by Japanese manga and have been extensively popular in the West. Japan is a world-renowned powerhouse of animation.
