Major Accelerator Progress and Future Projects in SRF Technology
The text highlights significant developments in superconducting radiofrequency (SRF) technology, including major accomplishments at the European XFEL, LCLS-II, and FRIB accelerators. It also discusses ongoing projects such as the construction of ESS and CIADS in China, along with future initiatives like the HEPS storage ring and Shanghai-XFEL facility. These advancements signify a forward momentum in accelerator science and underscore the global collaboration within the SRF community.

Branlard (DESY) LCLS-II More than 200 cavities have been tested as well as 12 cryomodules. Today Plenary: LCLS-II progress with cavity and CM production and testing , M. Ross (SLAC) FRIB Over 230 cavities have been received from industry and accepted. A total of 9 cryomodules (56 cavities/19 SC magnets) have been tested and certified. Today Plenary: Recent progress in SRF cavity components and module tests at FRIB, K. Saito (MSU),
Under Construction ESS Prototype Spoke and Elliptical cavities developed and tested by Orsay, Saclay, Freia (Upsala U), INFN-LASA, STFC (test-stands) Plenary: ESS prototype testing and test-stands progress, R. Ruber (Uppsala Univ.) RISP (Korea) Prototype QWR and HWR cavities fabricated through domestic vendors Vertical tests performed in collaboration with TRIUMF and Cornell. SRF expands to ASIA in a big way
China -1 CIADS Approved by Chinese government in Dec. 2015 Budget: >1.8B CNY Proton CW linac > 250MeV In collaboration of IMP, IHEP, and many other institutes Major progress on Injectors
China 2 Future project: HEPS (Storage Ring) High Energy Photon Source will be built in Beijing by IHEP from 2018 to 202
China -3 : Shanghai-XFEL SCLF Shangai Coherent Light Source Facility Approved with 10B CNY, to be built in 7 years Dominated by Shanghai-Tech University and Sinap at Shanghai 8GeV CW Linac, with ~600 of 1.3GHz TESLA cavities, 75 cryomodules Construction start - 2018
PAPS SRF Facility, Beijing, China 4500 m2 SRF lab in the Platform of Advanced Photon Source Technology R&D (PAPS), Huairou Science Park, Beijing. Construction and facility commissioning: 2017 - 2020 Jiyuan Zhai (IHEP, China), LCWS2017, Strasbourg, France 2017/10/24 8
China - 4: CEPC Proposed by IHEP, pre-research in progress Circular electron-positron collider at 2 x 120GeV e+e- Higgs (Z) factory for precision measurement of the Higgs boson (and the Z boson) Ecm~240GeV, luminosity ~2 1034 cm-2s-1, two detectors, 1M ZH events in 10yrs > 900 Cavities, > 140 CM for Booster and Collider Plenary Talk Wed: SRF technology in China; Infrastructure and industrialization for various projects , D. Wang (SINAP)
FCC - CERN In 2020, the European Strategy Group will make an assessment on the future physics roadmap. The Future Circular Collider (FCC) is a potential first step. A staged approach is envisioned. From 2025 to 2035 FCC may be a circular electron-positron collider 100 km in circumference in the Geneva Switzerland region, Running in Z-factory, W-factory, H-factory and Top-factory modes. > 1200 Cavities, > 300 CM For booster and collider Followed in the subsequent decades by a 100 TeV proton- proton collider with advanced technology superconducting magnets. Plenary Wed: Thin film research: CERN experience and possible future applications , E. Jensen (CERN)
ILC News Where are we? At its Ottowa meeting in November 2017, ICFA (International Committee for Future Accelerators) expressed its support to realize ILC as a Higgs boson factory with a center-of-mass energy of 250 GeV. Japanese Association of High Energy Physics (JAHEP) also proposed the prompt construction in Japan of ILC as a Higgs Factory at 250 GeV The Linear Collider Board estimates cost of 250 GeV starting point will be 40% less than the cost of 500 GeV TDR cost. A decision from the Japanese community is expected soon, in 2018. Continued SRF performance improvement R&D, cost reduction R&D and optimization R&D will be very beneficial. Thursday Plenary: Report from TTC topical workshop on pushing cavity performance limits , Sergey Belomestnykh (FNAL)
