WHY DID WE MIGRATE? The Campus Documents were in fact University Archives materials Belong with other scanned University Archives items in Kennedy Library Online Archive (Islandora)
EXPORTING FROM DIGITALCOMMONS Export Retrieved digital objects from quarterly back-up No real export available for objects
EXPORTING FROM DIGITALCOMMONS Retrieved metadata from OAI-PMH requests Metadata also available via quarterly backups (non-standard XML) and via DigitalCommons UI (non-standard spreadsheet) Metadata retrieved one series at a time
TOOLS USED DURING MIGRATION MarcEdit crosswalk from OAI-DC to MARCXML LOC xslt crwosswalk from MARCXML to MODS Oxygen To perform the XSLT transforms Java regular expression find/replace XSLT created by Islandora user (Peter McDonald) split bulk XML files into individual XML files Bulk Filenaming Utility Bash script for renaming files based on a 2-column spreadsheet
TIME ESTIMATES 8,258 records / 47 series / 1 person 6 hours to retrieve OAI-DC metadata 4 hours to round up digital objects Extract quarterly backup from zip file Rename/copy files to a central file directory Match XML metadata to digital objects (usually PDF) 50 hours (at least!) converting DC to MODS and normalizing
