  1. GOALS Marion County Schools believe that each student must be challenged academically, graduate fully prepared for post-secondary learning opportunities and ready for the challenges of a career. We strive for all students to graduate fully prepared to become productive members of society and economically independent adults.

  2. EPSO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Early Post-Secondary Opportunities are ways for students to obtain post-secondary credit while in high school Early postsecondary opportunities ensure that students are ready to take full advantage of the Tennessee Promise and succeed in education and training after high school

  3. WHY OFFER EPSO? Earn postsecondary credits while in high school Become familiar with postsecondary rigor and expectations Develop confidence and skills for success in postsecondary learning Make informed postsecondary and career decisions Decrease the time and cost of completing a certificate or degree Be more fully prepared to enter the work force upon completion of high school

  4. MCS OPPORTUNITIES Local Dual Credit (LDC) Statewide Dual Credit (SDC) Advanced Placement (AP) College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Dual Enrollment (DE) Local Industry Certifications (IC)

LOCAL DUAL CREDIT High school course aligned to a local postsecondary institution s course and exam Students who pass the exam earn credits that are accepted and/or recognized by the local postsecondary institution Our Local Dual Credit partnering institutions are Chattanooga State Community College and TCAT Chattanooga Personal Finance, Welding, Machining, and Collision Repair Next year add Teaching As A Profession

  6. STATEWIDE DUAL CREDIT Statewide dual credit classes are college-level courses taught at the high-school level by trained high-school teachers All students enrolled in the course take the online challenge exam Students that meet or exceed the exam cut score receive college credit that can be applied to any Tennessee public postsecondary institution World History, US History, and Pre Calculus

ADVANCED PLACEMENT Students experience postsecondary-level coursework taught by AP trained teachers Students enrolled in the course take the challenge exam at the conclusion Post-Secondary credit may then be approved by the accepting post-secondary institution Psychology Next year add English 3, Chemistry, and US History

  8. COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM Exams can be taken by students to assess mastery of postsecondary-level material acquired in a variety of ways We provide students with extra course work through an online program Once they have completed this additional coursework they may sit for the exam Post-Secondary credit may then be approved by the accepting post-secondary institution Chemistry and Spanish are the courses we are focusing on but students have the option to test for other subjects if requested

DUAL ENROLLMENT Post-secondary courses are taught either at the postsecondary institution or at the high school by college faculty Credits are awarded at the college level and at the high school level Partner with Chattanooga State and TCAT to offer courses in a variety of ways Early College Academy, Polytech, general Dual Enrollment

  10. INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION Certifications are aligned with postsecondary and employment opportunities and with the competencies and skills of the particular high school course District funds one industry certification for each CTE Program

  11. INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS Business Technology Microsoft Office Suite Engineering Inventor User Carpentry OSHA 10 Health Science Certified Nursing Assistant Welding AWS D1.1 (x-ray) Electromechanical Technology SolidWorks Machining Certified Production Technician

  12. CTE PROGRAMS Have at least one EPSO for every CTE Program. Next year, every program will have either a dual enrollment, dual credit, or industry certification opportunity.
