Center of Excellence for Domestic Workforce Training Education (CoE) for 2021-2022 Long Beach City College is a 2021 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE). https://cms.marad.dot.gov/education/maritime-centers-excellence LBCC received this designation due to the contributions that graduates of this program have made in the industry over the years. Only 3 Designees are from California including LBCC. The other two designees are Mira Costa Community College in Oceanside (MCCCD) and Orange Coast College(OCC) in Newport Beach, CA. www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
Program Overview The Port of Long Beach s Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College is a professional development program that offers short-term online for individuals interested in developing, or expanding, their skillset in the logistics sector. This program targets two distinct groups of people Those with general business/work skills who could be more hirable with industry context/knowledge Those in entry level jobs within industry who wanted to gain the knowledge/skills to move up www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter

Training Courses Offered Introduction to Logistics 10 week class Intermediate Logistics -10 week class Dispatching for Logistics- 10 week class Intermediate Transportation Operations- 10 weeks class International Transportation & U.S. Customs Clearance Procedures- 6 week class *Includes certification from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
International Transportation & U.S. Customs Clearance Procedures Designed for all levels beginners, as well as those with some experience in the field. This course will cover: Ocean and air transportation components/processes Calculation of shipping costs, and import/export documentation Classification and valuation of goods for U.S. Customs clearance Occupations: Freight Forwarding Positions www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
Introduction to Logistics Designed for all entry levels This course will cover: Logistics from the warehouse and drayage perspective Supply chain and logistics Related technology and software Industry terminology *Includes the opportunity to test for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals SCPro Fundamentals certification in Supply Chain Management Principles. Intermediate Logistics Designed for individuals already working in the industry in positions such as logistics specialist, operations coordinators, and analysts. This course will cover: First-time supervisory skills Basic Forecasting and Projections Cost Analysis and Budgeting and more Occupations: Logistics Managers Logistics Dispatcher www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
Dispatching for Logistics Designed for all entry levels This course will cover: Routing, Scheduling and Regulations Interpersonal and conflict management skills General understanding of logistics and the supply chain Basic drayage operations *Includes the opportunity to test for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals SCPro Fundamentals certification in Transportation Operations. Intermediate Transportation Operations Designed for people currently working in the industry in positions such as truck drivers who want to shift into a supervisory operations role This course will cover: Driver and time management Vehicle & driver safety and compliance Port and terminal operations Federal and state regulations First-time supervisory skills Occupations: Supervisory Transportation Operations Logistics/First Line Supervisors Positions www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
Customer Service This workshop teaches students how to exceed customer expectations and develop skills needed in a successful supply chain and logistics career path. Embedded in all 4 courses, the principles taught in this session can be applied to any position throughout your career in Supply Chain. Networking & Industry Engagement This workshop teaches students to develop a successful networking strategy. Embedded in all 4 courses, the principles taught in this session will help students maximize effectiveness with face-to-face and online networking opportunities throughout their career in Supply Chain. How will the class be offered? Training courses will be offered virtually synchronous (happens at the same time) for Spring 2022 All participants will be required to utilize Canvas and Confer Zoom access to technology important. Access to Laptop or desktop strongly encouraged. All class sessions will be recorded Canvas will offer electronic versions of course materials and handouts a week before class starts. Will not need to purchase any textbooks. Access to testing material and 1 exam voucher for courses that offer certifications included Parking pass not required since class is virtual www.lbcc.edu/maritimecenter
For your Information This training program does not prepare people to be longshoremen. These trainings do not align with direct employment to the Port itself. Professional development training with placement support The training content has been designed by supply chain and logistics industry professionals to enhance existing skillset, regardless of experience in the industry, as well as increase marketability with potential employers. Financial Aid is not accepted for this program this is fee based program only No credit offered for taking these courses.
