Five Views of Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
1. He who believes and is baptized WILL NOT be saved Atheists (Psalm 14:1; 1 Tim. 2:3-4) Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc. (1 Tim. 2:5-6; Acts 4:12; John 14:6)
2. He who DOES NOT believe and IS NOT baptized will be saved Universalists All souls will eventually find salvation in the grace of God. That is not what the Bible teaches (Matt. 7:13-14; Eph. 5:5-6, Rev. 21:8).
3. He who DOES NOT believe and is baptized will be saved Infant Baptism Faith is prerequisite to baptism (Acts 8:13-14, Rom. 10:17) Repentance is prerequisite to baptism (Acts 2:38) Baptism is immersion (Rom. 6:3-4)
4. He who believes and IS NOT baptized will be saved Faith Only Faith alone cannot save (James 2:24; Matt. 7:21; Heb. 5:9, 1 Pet. 1:22). Baptism is essential for salvation (Acts 2:38, 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21).
5. He who believes and is baptized will be saved The verse means what it says! Faith is essential, but so is baptism. Have you obeyed the Lord s command?
