  1. Mini Series on 4 People of Christmas Luke 1:46-55: Mary My surrender to God brings magnification & praise to Him

  2. 46And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me holy is his name. 50His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.

  3. 51He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.

  4. 1. My soul magnifies the Lord (v. 46) *He has done great things (v. 49, 51, 52) *His name is holy (v. 49) *His mercy continues to future people (v. 50)

  5. *He remembers His servant (vv. 48, 54) My spirit rejoiced in God. (v. 47) *He remembers our humble state (vv. 47, 48, 52) *He remembers His Covenant/mercy (vv. 54, 55) [cf. Genesis 17:19; 22:14-18; Galatians 3:6-16]

  6. Conclusion & responses to Marys example Luke 2:19 Mary treasured up all these things & pondered them in her heart. This involves amazement at the Christmas story & the mystery: Virgin conception & birth; Incarnation (God taking on flesh & becoming man) in the person of Jesus.

  7. Conclusion & responses to Marys example Luke 1:29, 34; 2:19, 51 Mary was troubled, pondered, asked questions, pondered & treasured things in her heart. All of these things in Luke chap. 1 & 2 involved the following for Mary, Jesus mother. (A) Her memory she treasured up all these things. (B) Her affections she treasured up all these things IN HER HEART. (C) Her intellect she treasured up all these things & PONDERED them in her heart.

  8. Conclusion & responses to Marys example This Advent & Christmas season may I use my memory, my affections, my intellect to surrender to God and magnify & praise Him!
