Teacher slide Objectives: Students are more aware of best practice CV writing and feel confident about what content is required and how to promote their skills and experiences effectively. You need: Printout of slide 6, one per group The recommended time for this resource is 20 minutes
Starter for 10 Read the Know-how library article, Acing your CV. Pay attention there s a pop quiz coming up!
Pop quiz! 1. What are the 5 main things your CV should include? 2. You should include your date of birth and a photo on your CV. Discuss. 3. Is it better to save your CV as a Word document, or a PDF? 4. It s fine to just make one CV and send it out to everywhere that you want a job. Discuss.
Activity Working in pairs or small groups sort the cards on the following slide into things that are good practice on CVs and things that are poor practice on CVs. What do you think and the top three dos and the top three don ts of a CV? Can you add any others to the list? When you are finished you will share your opinions with the rest of the class.
Include every hobby and interest that you have Always give out exactly the same CV Include your date of birth or age List experiences with the most recent first Write CV or Curriculum Vitae at the top Write using long, complex sentences Be selective about what you include so that only the best stands out Use consistent punctuation Be positive throughout
Activity part 2 Log in to Unifrog and swap computers with a partner. Read through each other s CVs, focusing on the work experience section and decide whether or not your partner has followed the good practice of CVs and avoided the bad practice. Give your partner feedback and advice on how they can improve. You should start with the things they are doing well before moving on to what they could work on.
