  2. Past simple tense Past simple tense is used for actions completed in the past. With most verbs, past tense is formed by adding -ed to the base form of a verb. These verbs are called regular verbs. BASE FORM PAST TENSE open play listen talk opened played listened talked + -ed But there are also a lot of irregular past tense forms and such verbs are known as irregular verbs, e.g. BASE FORM PAST TENSE go make stand buy went made stood bought

  3. Past simple tense Negative form of Past simple is formed by using the auxiliary verb DID (past simple of the verb DO) and the base form of a verb, e.g. 1. She didn t open her present. 2. He didn t play basketball. 3. They didn t go to school. 4. We didn t stand on the balcony.

Past simple tense Interrogative form of Past simple is also formed by using the auxiliary verb DID and the base form of a verb However, in interrogative sentences the auxiliary verb is placed before the subject 1. Did she open her present? 2. Did he play basketball? 3. Did they go to school? 4. Did we stand on the balcony?

  5. Past simple tense Write the negative and interrogative forms of the verbs in brackets. 1. We ___________ ____________ to music. (listen) 2. ________ they _________ about the movie. (talk) 3. ________ she __________ a cake. (make) 4. He ____________ ___________ a postcard. (buy)
