Are language coursebooks typically successful in facilitating language acquisition?
There are many reasons but one is undoubtedly: They don t typically match what we know facilitates language acquisition. (See Tomlinson 2012, 2013a, 2013b, forthcoming 2015)
Why dont they typically match what we know facilitates language acquisition?
Practise and Pass Preliminary for Schools focuses on exam preparation in a fun and interesting way, providing students with the necessary exam skills together with a wide- ranging revision of the essential vocabulary and grammatical structures required at this level.

Pre-Requisites for Language Acquisition 4 That the learners are sometimes helped to pay attention to form whilst or after focusing on meaning.
Pre-Requisites for Language Acquisition 5That the learners are given plentiful opportunities to use the language for communication.
Conclusion We need to adapt, supplement and develop materials so that they match as closely as possible what we know facilitates language acquisition. The best way to do this is not PPP but
