Mandate L Association du lac McGregor Lake Association is a not-for-profit organization established in 1945. Our mandate is: To promote and encourage interest in the protection of McGregor Lake and its surrounding environment, including the relevant watershed, for the continued benefit of the members and their properties; to collaborate with organizations and government authorities and agencies that share a similar purpose in the betterment of said area; and to promote better relations and understanding among the residents and property owners of said area and generally to further the common interests of the members. 2
Communication & Outreach A bilingual source of factual information https://lacmcgregorlake.ca (lake's history, environment, MLA s activities and municipal information). An active and bilingual communications program 153 full members in 2021 278 individuals on the mailing list 679 members on our Facebook Group Direct reach A channel of communication to a core constituency relevant to VDM. 3
Our Successful Initiatives Significant contribution to the PDE (Plan directeur de l eau) Safe boating initiative >60 years of lake water testing Eurasian Milfoil Study and Identification Environmental Stewardship (water safety, wildlife appreciation and protection) 4
Current Issues of Importance Boat wash Rigorous procedures are necessary to mitigate the introduction of invasive species Water safety Regular patrols of the police on weekends and holidays Short-term rentals Licensing Restrictions Enforcement Ecological protection Shoreline deforestation and removal of native plants, use of herbicides and pesticides Thoughtful and sustainable development 5 Proper oversight Inspections
Our Goals Moving Forward In the context of VDM's revised planning and regulatory framework. Slowing the spread of Milfoil and stopping the introduction of other invasive species (boat wash and education) Action to manage/restrict private boat launches Increased boat behaviour enforcement patrols Prompt regulatory action on short-term rentals (summer 2022 impact) Improved accountability of developers to prevent excessive tree cutting and lakefront modifications The Association can be your partner with targeted messages to both lake residents and visitors on municipal actions 6
Commitment and Expectations The Association commits to collaborate proactively with VDM on these listed initiatives to assign a lead contact to each initiative if helpful to the municipality to move these initiatives forward this winter to provide timely and accurate communication to our broad community to keep the municipality informed of emerging issues of concern of our members no surprises The Association anticipates action on these listed initiatives timely communication from the Municipality on issues that impact the lake and its residents no surprises 7
Next Steps and Follow-ups Short term Continued collaborative and productive relationship with VDM in the interest of preserving McGregor lake for the enjoyment of all future generations. Longer timeline A Recreational Carrying Capacity Study / Boat Load Capacity Evaluation could be a useful development and management tool 8
