  2. Updates Temporary pause last week on spending by federal government caused confusion across the country Caused Medicaid services to stop working in every state for two days, policy has now been revoked

  3. Governors 2025 Budget Proposal Governor expects more money this year Funding for new requirement that Regional Centers have to follow Public Records Act Expected increased spending on Medi-Cal However, budget released before fires so may change

  4. Basics of Medicaid Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California) helps provide people with health care, in-home care, and other supports Funding is shared between the federal government and the states Covers almost 80 million people across the country It also pays for 70% of HCBS services

Congressional Action Congress considering $2.3 trillion in cuts to Medicaid funding partly to pay for tax cuts Considering adding work requirements even though most on Medicaid are already working Would also mean more paperwork that would have to be filled out every month One of the proposals would not have exceptions for people who use SSI Medicaid also helps people keep jobs by funding health care and case management services Can lead to loss of benefits if person doesn t meet reporting requirements, can make it less likely that people will want to work

Impact on Futures 51% of Futures funding comes from the state and 49% from the federal government Cuts to Medicaid would mean less federal funding and either a larger percentage would have to come from the state or services would need to be reduced Could lead to reductions in HCBS (Home and Community Based Services) funds These services are funded by Medicaid

  9. Congress also proposing making Medicaid funding a certain amount per person rather than a percentage of total funding, this would not take into account differences in medical costs
