In this event, parents get to meet the Year One staff and learn about the daily routines and behavior strategies at the school. The schedule includes morning activities, assemblies, playtime, snack breaks, and dismissal time. The school implements behavior strategies like 1, 2, 3 Magic and Class Dojo to promote positive behavior among students. Communication and uniform guidelines are also shared to ensure a smooth learning environment.

  1. Meet the Teacher Tuesday 7thSeptember

  2. Year One Staff Miss Coleman Mrs Allen & Mrs Cole Mrs Taylor (Teaching Assistant)

  3. Routines Children are allowed into the classrooms at 8:40am where they will have a morning activity to start, registration is at 8:50am. On Monday we have a whole school assembly 9:00- 9:30am. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we have 15 minute class assemblies where necessary. Celebration assembly is on Fridays, 9:00-9:30am, which parents are invited to if their child has been selected for an award. Morning playtime is at 10:30am. Healthy snacks are provided every morning break. The children have their water bottles available in the classroom. Lunch time is 11:45-12:45pm and home time is 3:15pm.

  4. 1,2,3 Magic School behaviour strategy for promoting positive behaviour. House points, class reward track points, dojo points and stickers etc. Warnings that is 1, that is 2 That is 3 = consequence. Consequences are personal to the individual child. Examples - missing a part of a playtime or choosing time. Immediate 3 (Unacceptable behaviour) Behaviour is recorded and monitored. Parents contacted and Mrs McIntyre or senior member of staff is notified. A consequence is given.

  5. Class Dojo Each child can be rewarded daily with points for good behaviour such as lining up sensibly, listening on the carpet, helping others, working hard and participating in lessons. The points will continue to add up until a child reaches 50 dojo points, they will receive a small prize and the points will go back to 0.

  6. Weekly Timetable

  7. Communication Curriculum news provides an overview of what will be covered every half term. Can leave notes in reading records for the teacher or teaching assistant to read, e.g. new book needed. Weekly school newsletters to keep you updated with what is happening in school. Updates/ posters for events put on class window. Can email with any concerns or questions throughout the year. Emails go through the office email address and are passed onto the relevant staff: office@hardingstone.emat.uk

  8. Uniform All items need to be clearly named. Prompt children to dress themselves at home. No jewellery- earrings cannot be removed by adults. Jumpers and cardigans- no hoodies (only for PE). We have a jumper/ cardigan box where children can leave their jumper/ cardigan if they take it off and it will be handed back at the end of the day. Uniform list see the office.

  9. PE Fridays with class teacher. Wednesdays Mr Mooney (Freestyle). Indoor and outdoor kits need to be in school on a Wednesday and they can go home on a Friday after school if you want to wash them. No jewellery. Shoulder length hair must be tied back.

  10. Reading Children will read with an adult at least once a week. Book bags need to be in school everyday with reading book and reading record. The reading book will be changed once a week and books will become more challenging when children are ready for them to be. Children will also have a reading for pleasure book that will be changed weekly. Please make comments in their reading records. The children have reading targets to focus on throughout the year, these can be seen at the front of the reading records. Weekly Library visits on a Tuesday.

  11. Curriculum Throughout the curriculum the children will be encouraged to: develop their skills at working with a partner. develop their skills at working as part of a small group. develop their independence within the classroom and their own learning.

  12. Phonics Read Write Inc. scheme. Focuses on reading, spelling and writing. Can practise their speed sounds, writing and spellings at home. Phonics sessions are for half an hour, they are followed by an English session where the skills can be applied. In June, Year 1 will carry out a statutory assessment.   13. Year One English Expectations Developing writing stamina and behaviours e.g. pencil grip, sitting to write, letter formation. Grapheme phoneme correspondence (knowing relationship between sounds and letters). Singular and plural nouns using suffixes s and es . Know the alphabet letter names and use when spelling. Use a range of pronouns e.g. he, she. Adapt a verb into the past and present tense using ed and ing . Orally build, rehearse and write sentences. Spelling compound and tricky words. Finger spaces. A range of connectives. Capital letters and full stops. Capital letter for proper nouns. Adjectives. Developing story language.

  14. Year One Numeracy Expectations Counting to and across 100 from any given number. Finding one more or less than a given number. Counting, reading and writing numbers to 100. Reading numerals and number words to 20. + and one and two digit numbers to 20. Recall of number bonds to 10 and 20. Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Recognising , finding and naming one half and one quarter of a shape and quantity. Naming and describing 2D and 3D shapes. MASTERY scheme.

  15. Homework Set on a Friday every week. Hand in by the following Wednesday. Read daily for 5-10 minutes. Weekly Maths fluency activity. Developing reading comprehension activity or handwriting activity. Support your child.

  16. Water Bottles Clearly named water bottles. Kept in the classroom. Only water is allowed in class. Go home at the end of the day. Lunchboxes need a separate drink. If your child doesn t bring a water bottle into class, a jug of water and cups will be provided in the room.

  17. Trip Reminders Suitable walking shoes. School jumpers. Rucksacks lunch, waterproof coat, snack and water. Maximum of 3.00 spending money. (Will be reminded nearer the time of a trip!)
