  1. FUTURE EDUCATORS MTE PANEL March 9th2020

MTE policy (from DBBS website) All DBBS students are required to have a Mentored Teaching Experience (MTE) for at least one-semester, documented by registering for Mentored Teaching Experience and receiving a grade of Satisfactory (Dept. L41, LSG 600, Section # program dependent, Credit=0). This is typically completed during the second year of graduate training.The mentored teaching experience (MTE) will involve one of the following: lead discussions and/orproblem-solving sessions prepare anddeliver one or more lectures aspartofthe regular lecture schedule provide regular instruction in a laboratory environment

General requirements for the MTE Attend MTE Orientation in August Medical Campus Wednesday, August 12th8:45am-2:00pm Danforth Campus Wednesday, August 19th, 8:30am- 2:00pm Attend 3 Foundations in Teaching workshops (before the end of your MTE is recommended) Can start early Won t get a grade until they re all done One semester of TAing (normally in your 2ndyear) Self-evaluation and faculty evaluation

MTE timeline Friday, March 13th deadline for faculty to submit MTE descriptions week of March 23rd email with link to the MTE portal, submit top 5 preferences Early May final MTE placement will be emailed to students and faculty August 12thor 19th MTE Orientation ASAP: If you need to defer, contact your Program Coordinator and they will take you off the eligibility list

  5. MTE survey Lists all possible classes (undergrad, graduate, medical) Time commitment, general requirements, sometimes the class times Read requirements carefully Some prefer MSTPs Only available even/odd years, Fall/Spring semesters Risk getting deferred if you choose classes that you are not eligible for Rank top 5 classes (Note: not all classes require TAs) Contact info for previous TAs is available
