Microscopic Anatomy of Brain: Neurons, Glial Cells, and Synapses
Explore the intricate structure of nervous tissue, types of neurons based on structure and function, neurotransmitter types, and the role of glial cells in supporting neurons. Discover the specialized junctions at synapses for communication between neurons and target cells. Next lab focuses on membrane biophysics.

Nervous tissue Nervous tissue is composed of two types of cells, neurons and glial cells. Types of neurons Based on Structure
Types of neuron Based on Function: Types of neuron Based on Function:
Types of neuron Based on Neurotransmitter: Types of neuron Based on Neurotransmitter: Cholinergic Neurons: Found in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Adrenergic Neurons: Involved in the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system. Dopaminergic Neurons: Play a role in reward and pleasure pathways, among other functions. Serotonergic Neurons:Involved in mood regulation, sleep, and various other functions.
Glial cell(neuroglia Glial cell(neuroglia): ):Are non-neuronal cells that provide support and protection for neurons in the nervous system.
Synapses Synapses Synapses are specialized junctions that allow communication between neurons or between neurons and target cells, such as muscle cells or gland cells.
Types of synapses: Types of synapses:
