Changing our approach to mathematics instruction school-wide Use of iTime and Lunch Bunch to re-teach and reinforce mathematical concepts Restructured the sixth grade supplemental math class for the 2013-2014 school year Restructured the ESL content link class for the 2013- 2014 school year Weekly meeting with instructional support teacher, supplemental math teacher, ESL content link teacher and mathematics teachers to coordinate support services and discuss student progress Use of online software in content link classes Master schedule was organized so that struggling students receive math instruction every day
Creating a culture of mathematical learning in the classroom Participation in Lesson Studies Development of Common Formative Assessments and curriculum alignment. Friday afternoon time is devoted to this practice Effectively utilizing the co-teaching model in 6th and 7th grade mathematics Both grade level departments meet weekly to review the previous lessons and create/refine upcoming lessons. The investigations, homework and assessments are done with the average student, resource student, struggling student, ELL student and GATE student in mind. Each lesson must meet the needs of each of these specific populations
Creating a culture of mathematical learning in the classroom continued Technology integration with the use of Promethean boards, Mobi slates and TI 73s (calculators) Teaching to mastery and holding students accountable for learning at mastery levels in 7th-grade Use of Mastery Connect in seventh grade to track students in order to bring them to mastery Two years of professional development training on the Comprehensive Mathematics Instruction (CMI) framework One class is offering Early Bird Math reviews
