  1. Nuts and Bolts Carla Jones, Stephanie Markwalter, Nick Boyiatzis

Orientation Process Counselor meets with 5thgrade teachers to discuss student learning profiles Virtual presentation to 5thgrade classes by Mrs. Jones, Ms. McGinn and 4 graduates from each elementary school to go over typical day in the middle school and answer questions Parent orientation End of summer orientation (August 25th) when students come in to middle school and go through their schedules

  3. Getting to School Bus- have to live .8 mile from school to be eligible for bus in 6thgrade; 1.3 miles from school in 7thand 8thgrades. Will receive bus pass in summer if eligible Bike must wear helmet and lock bike to bike rack Walk/Get a ride Once students get here, they can : go to breakfast, wait in auditorium, or go to extra help which is from 7:35-8:00.

  4. Lockers Might not use lockers right away can then carry backpacks Lockers have combination locks good idea to practice over the summer Students should not share their combination with anyone and make sure locker is fully locked when they leave it If your child is on the shorter side, you can sign up for a lower locker. Please email afemminello@rvcschools.org.

  5. Advisory First 8 minutes of the day, like a homeroom Approximately 12 students in each advisory mixed grade level Take attendance, say pledge, watch announcements from Morning News Extended Advisory once a month do various activities School Store open during Advisory to purchase school supplies

  6. 6thGrade Classes 9 periods in a day, 39 minutes each period, 4 mins between periods Typical classes are: LA, Math, Science, SS, Spanish or French, PE, Band, Chorus or Orchestra, Exploratory Cooking, Sewing, Music, Career exploration and personal development, Strategies for Life, Math Strategies , ELA Support All 6thgraders eat Lunch 5thperiod either Lunch/Study or Study/Lunch Can bring lunch, buy lunch or buy snacks MySchool bucks

  7. Clusters What are they? Major subject teachers are grouped together into 3 clusters per grade Students are randomly assigned School counselor meets with cluster teachers to discuss issues that come up Parents can schedule a cluster meeting where all the teachers are available at the same time Call Counseling office to set up. This is in place of parent-teacher conferences. Many ways to communicate with teachers phone, email, conferences

  8. Organization Organization is important! Students given an agenda book on first day of school All students will be given a Chrome Book Teachers use Google Classroom to post all assignments good when absent Power School Parent Portal great way to stay on top of grades and assignments

  9. Report Cards There are 4 quarters and there will be a Report Card at the end of each quarter with grades and comments for each class. Posted on the Power School Portal Regular Honor Roll 85 average High Honor Roll 92.5 average

  10. Extra-Curricular Activities School day ends at 2:42. Bus right after school and late bus at 3:40. Clubs listed in Agenda Book, website and will be receiving a club catalog in Parent folder in August. Meetings are announced in advisory and posted outside the Counseling Office and on website Sports 6thgraders can t play team sports but can do intramurals in gym after school basketball, volleyball and weight training School plays twice a year: Fall Revue and Spring Musical
