Division 1 Middleton Cheney 5 Northway 1 Saturday, 07 September 2013 MC: Andrew Boyles (2), Sam Matthews, Stephen Finch, Ryan Markham Northway: Lewis Higgins Cheney maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a straight forward victory over visitors Northway. The home side got off to a flying start, dominating possession and playing most of the game in the Northway half. They were rewarded with two goals in the first 20 minutes, both from Andrew Boyles to put them in a comfortable position. Unfortunately Boyles had to leave the field with a hamstring injury shortly afterwards and the resulting change seemed to upset Cheney s structure and they failed to maintain their domination, with the visitors coming back in to the game as half time approached. Northway flew out of the blocks at the start of the second half and scored within 10 minutes through Lewis Higgins. For a moment it looked as if the game could be close going in to the last half hour, but Cheney found another gear and goals from Sam Matthews, Stephen Finch and a cracking half volley from 20 yards by Ryan Markham saw Middleton to a comfortable victory and another 3 points in the bag.

The home side took the lead through Leon Edwards but were pegged back by an equalizer from Ceri Saunders. Chris Heritage restored the lead in the second half but again Watlington pulled level from Pete Ashman to earn a well-deserved point.

Division 1 Eynsham 0 Middleton Cheney 1 Saturday, 21 September 2013 M/C: Sam Matthews. A early season test for both teams who are looking to gain promotion this year, as expected the game was keenly contested throughout. The first half was even with both teams having half chances until Middleton went ahead after a mix up in the Eynsham defence due to sloppy play all round. The second half was better from Eynsham as they pushed for the equaliser with Middleton only threatening sporadically on the break, the last 25 minutes was spent in the Cheney half without any success for Eynsham and some resolute defending from Cheney and so the points went Northamptonshire.

Presidents Cup Round 1 Middleton Cheney 1 Freeland 0 Saturday, 05 October 2013 MC: Dan Smith A goal from young midfielder Dan Smith was enough to separate these two sides and send Cheney through to the next round of the Presidents Cup at the expense of their Premier League visitors. The game was played in good spirit and was a hard fought battle throughout but the home side raised their game against the team from the higher division and were rewarded with the goal from Smith which was enough to guarantee their place in the second round.

Division 1 Broughton & NN 1 Middleton Cheney 0 Saturday, 19 October 2013 Broughton and North Newington continued their good recent form with a fine victory against local rivals Middleton Cheney. Cheney went into the game top of the table and hot favourites for victory but local derby s always have a habit of springing surprises. Cheney started very brightly controlling the midfield and causing many problems for the Broughton defence but without ever troubling the Broughton keeper. On 32 minutes Broughton won the game when a long through ball wasn t dealt with by the Cheney defence and John Umney nipped in between defenders and goalkeeper to tap the ball home. Half Time: 1-0 Cheney went in search of the equaliser in the second half pushing more and more men forward but Broughton defence stood firm and held out for the victory. Broughton will be very happy with the 3 points but the result never tells the truth story in local derby s. Good luck to Cheney for the rest of the season. This result came at a cost with Steve Crognale breaking a bone in his foot which will see him out of action for sometime, Broughton now have 5 players on crutches and out of action for a long period of time.
November 2nd 2013 Oxon Senior League Div 1 - Away Kiddlington Res 3 v 0 Middleton Cheney R. Markham T. Salt H. Mitchell M. Tyler T. Mitchell S. Twynham L. Edwards P. Carter S. Matthews A. Morris A. Boyles S. Haynes S. Finch J. Haynes Goal scorers
Division 1 Kidlington Res 3 Middleton Cheney 0 Saturday, 02 November 2013 Kid: Max Dunmall, Harry Ritchie, James Phillpott, Kidlington hosted Middleton Cheney in the top of the league clash and it couldn't have been a better day for the ressies. The first half was goalless with Kidlington playing against a strong wind but it was in the second half Kidlington did the damage. A long ball through in the 50th min by Simon Grossman was met by Max Dunmall, who lob the oncoming keeper to make it 1-0. In the 65th min Harry Ritchie who was making his first start dribbled past 2 defenders in the box to smash home the 2nd. Kidlingtons 3rd was scored by full back James Phillpott with a cracking strike into the top corner. The result leaves Kidlington top, 3 points clear with a game in hand. Next week the Reserves take a break from league duty to play Oxford City Dev in the 2nd round of the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup at Court Place Farm, kick off 15.00
November 9th 2013 Oxon Senior League Div 1 - Home Middleton Cheney 1 v 1 North Oxford R. Markham T. Salt M. Tyler T. Mitchell S. Ciballi L. Edwards P. Carter S. Matthews A. Morris S. Haynes T. Williams S. Finch J. Hart Goal scorers L. Edwards
Division 1 Middleton Cheney 1 North Oxford 1 Saturday, 09 November 2013 MC: Leon Edwards NO: Tom Hooper Cheney struggled to gain control of this game against a battling North Oxford side and paid the price for not putting away their chances by conceding a late goal and losing two points as a result. The home side probably had the best of the possession in the first half but failed to turn this in to goals and only a Leon Edwards strike just before half time separated the teams at the break. But the visitors never gave up, and as long as Cheney failed to increase their advantage, there was always a chance they could get back in to it and when Tom Hooper scored with about 10 minutes remaining, they were looking the most likely team to go on and win it but the scores remained level at the final whistle and Cheney will look on this as a missed opportunity to get 3 points in the bag.

Division 1 Kidlington OB 2 Middleton Cheney 6 Saturday, 30 November 2013 KOB: Kristian Thomas, Deshawn Whiteman MC: Steve Ciballi, Leon Edwards, Dan Smith, Stuart Haynes, Sam Matthews (2) Cheney were looking to get their form back which looked a bit rockery over the last few weeks and Old Boys were trying to get just their third win of the season. Old Boys struck first in the first half with a strike from captain Kristian Thomas which put Old a Boys 1-0 up and stayed like this till half time. Second half Cheney sprung into life and hit back with goals from Steve Ciballi, Leon Edwards, Dan Smith, Stuart Haynes and a brace from Sam Matthews. Old Boys pinched a goal by Deshawn Whiteman but Cheney were just to strong! Talk about a game of two halves which put Cheney second and Old Boys fourth from bottom and wondering how it all fell apart?

Division 1 Middleton Cheney 1 Charlton 0 Saturday, 11 January 2014 MC: Josh Hart Cheney came out on top of this hard fought battle with Josh Hart netting the only goal early in the second half to clinch the three points. Both teams played some good football in the first half, keeping possession in the middle of the park but cancelling each other out when it came to clear goal scoring chances. Hart broke the deadlock ten minutes in to the second half to give the home side the lead but it looked as if the visitors would pull level shortly after when Tom Mitchell handled the ball in the area but the resulting spot kick was poorly taken and home keeper Matt Jones made an easy save. Middleton were reduced to ten men when Mitchell was given a second yellow card with ten minutes to go but the home side re-organized themselves and held on for the win.
January 25th 2014 Oxon Senior League Div 1 - Home Middleton Cheney 2 v 2 Eynsham R. Markham T. Salt H. Mitchell M. Tyler T. Mitchell S. Ciballi S. Twynham A. Boyles S. Haynes J. Jollands R. Waldock H. Spears N. Wright C. Hyde Goal scorers J. Jollands S. Twynham Booked
Division 1 Middleton Cheney 2 Saturday, 25 January 2014 MC: Jamie Jollands, Steve Twynham Eynsham: Tom McCluden, Liam Boterby Honours finished even in this hard fought game which finished with two goals in the last 5 minutes after the players had been taken off the field following a torrential hailstorm. Eynsham started the game stronger as Cheney struggled to settlle, but the visitors didn t really create any clear cut chances. They took the lead on the half hour after a calamitous goalkeeping error when Henry Spears miskicked a backpass and allowed the Eynsham player to nick the ball off him and score in to an empty net. Eynsham held on to the lead until half time but the home side came out looking stronger in the second half and grabbed a deserved equalizer through Steve Twynham early on to set up an interesting second half. However as the weather deteriorated throughout the half both teams were unable to play good football, although Cheney did have what looked like a perfectly good goal disallowed for a push on the keeper midway through the half. With 15 minutes to go a torrential downpour sent the spectators running for the cover of the changing rooms. The players stuck it out until the rain turned to hail and the referee took the players off for 5 minutes, but all agreed that the match should be finished and they went back out to conclude the game. Within the 5 minutes that remained both teams managed to score on the ridiculously wet pitch. Eynsham netted from a free kick that slid inside Spears s post with him at full stretch and then virtually from the kick off, Jamie Jollands was put through on his own and slotted a left foot shot low in to the net at the other end to bring the score back to 2-2. Eynsham 2

Division 1 Charlton 0 Middleton Cheney 2 Saturday, 22 February 2014 Charlton: Craig Barrett MC: Steve Twynham (2) A fiery game at Charlton was won in the first half by Cheney, an early two goal lead laying the foundations for victory. The first goal was a looping header from a whipped free kick that nestled neatly in the top corner. The same player, Steve Twynham added a second with a cool finish from 15 yards out after some good work out wide from the Cheney winger. Controversy was the order of the day as Charlton Utd defenders stopped after the ball was seemingly a yard out of play however; Cheney continued and scored adding to the growing frustration. Half time came before tempers flared. 0-2 Cheney. The second half was a low burner and only really kicked into life when Charlton pulled a goal back through a Craig Barrett header with 15 minutes left. As the tension built both sides began to become more reckless then strong in their challenges and the referee had several decisions to make. Cheney held on comfortably and should of added to their lead, although there was a strong claim for a handball waved away for Charlton in the dying moments. To say the game was competitive is fairly modest however, the game was well refereed and both teams gave everything on the pitch.
