Division 1 Middleton Cheney 5 v 0 Oakley Saturday, 03 September 2011 MIDDLETON CHENEY Steve O Brien (2) Steve Ciballi Luke Finch Paul Carter After a solid pre-season, Middleton welcomed Oakley to Astrop Road for the opening game of the season. Cheney started a bit nervously and struggled to settle for the first quarter of an hour, but then began to get the ball down and got on top of the game. They went 1-0 up when Steve Ciballi found the net after 25 minutes and then doubled their lead when Robbie Brown delivered a perfect free kick to the far post for Luke Finch to head home. The home side continued to play some good passing football up to half time and were rewarded with a third goal from new signing Steve O Brien, playing his first game for the club, slotting the ball home from long range after a defensive mix up. Middleton continued to dominate the second period and increased their lead mid-way through the half courtesy of a penalty from the hard-working Paul Carter. O Brien wrapped up the game and the three points with his second, and Cheney s fifth, to give the home side a comfortable victory to start their season. Paul Connelly picked up Cheney s man of the match award for a hard working midfield performance in what was a very organised and disciplined team performance.

The home side did find the net mid-way through the first half thanks to a Robbie Brown goal and then increased their lead before half time with a Paul Carter penalty and then with Steve O Brien finishing off a well worked move. Cheney got off to a slower start in the second half, allowing Crendon more of the ball and letting them get back in to the game, but a second goal from Brown plus efforts from Paul Connelly and Scott finch ensured Middleton were comfortable winners. This was a solid pleasing performance from the whole side with the man of the match performance coming from debutant Ed Somerton who had an excellent game in central defence.

Division 1 Oakley 3 Middleton Cheney 5 Saturday, 12 November 2011 Oakley: Matt Johnston (2), Matt Gregor MC: Scott Finch (2) Steve O Brian, Kevin Coles, Matt Gregor Having played each other last week in the Presidents Cup Oakley knew that the way they handled the ariel threat of Scott Finch and the movement of Steve O Brian would be key to gaining a result on saturday. Oakley Utds coach john wanted to cut out balls into the box and some tight marking should nullify that threat then the try and hit the visitors on the break using the pace of dean boyles. Unfortunately having conceded 3 goals 2 from Scott Finch and one from Steve O Brian 2 of which were free headers Oakley found themselves with their backs to the wall. Just before halftime a wayward shot from Oakleys Matt Johnston took a defection and nestled its way into the back of the net. Half time 1-3 Oakley started the second half well after a few choice words in the dressing room and wasn't long before Matt Johnston found the back of the net from the edge of the box with a well taken strike. The game was now charged and Oakley were turning the screw and creating more and more chances, a high bouncing ball from Matt Gregor over the visitors defence which was misjudged by Stuart White and Oakleys speed demon Dean Boyles was turning on the gas. With only one option the rotund White mauled down the Oakley man in a tackle more commonly seen on the rugby field. As Oakley pushed looking for that next goal they got hit twice on the break with 2 good goals from sub Kevin Coles. Oakley finally got that 3rd goal they were looking for in the form of a fantastic free kick from Oakley's Matt Gregor, the big centre half curled the ball into the top corner of the goal in true brazilian style. On a whole it was a good game of football and having already played Cheney three times this season Oakley would like to wish them all the best

Division 1 Broughton & NN 4 Middleton Cheney 3 Saturday, 26 November 2011 Broughton & NN: Josh Northam, Laurance Caro, Aaron Bedding, O.G. Middleton Cheney: Steve O'Brien, Scott Finch 2 This was an entertaining derby game, Broughton raced into a early 2-0 lead with goals from Josh Northam & a O.G. which Aaron Field can take credit for after good work out wide before putting a good cross in which was sliced into the Middleton goal by one of there defenders. Middleton pulled a goal back from Steve O'Brien after a smart finish, Middleton then played some decent stuff but couldn't find the net, 2-1 to Broughton at half time. Middleton started brightly early in the second half, forcing a goal from Scott Finch, with the game going end to end Laurance Caro came off the bench to fire Broughton back in front , minutes later Finch climbed highest to power home to make it 3-3, the referee then made a shocking decision to award Middleton a penalty after Andy Robey was adjudge to have fouled a Middleton foward, justice was done when Middleton's Centre-mid blasted the kick over the bar. Broughton went down the other end with a few half chances before Sam Grant picked out sub Aaron Bedding who glanced his header into the top corner of the net to win the game for Broughton 4-3.

Saints controlled the first period and Tom Payne gave the home side the lead after 20 minutes when he arrived in the area with impeccable timing to powerfully head home Mark Gaul's right flank cross. 10 minutes later, left back Andrew best doubled Marston's lead when he headed home from close range after Josh Carr had done so well to hook the ball across the 6 yard box, and it was 3 a few minutes later when Captain John Hudson arrived in the penalty area to head home a centre by Tom Payne. Marston took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half and on another day it could have cost them. Kyle Bateman narrowed the deficit when he ran through on goal, sat Andrew Winchester on his arse and rolled the ball in to an empty net to make it 3-1. There were good chances for both sides before the end but it was Marston who go through to the next round of the competition.

Division 1 Long Crendon 1 Middleton Cheney 6 Saturday, 25 February 2012 Long Crendon: Chris Scott Middleton Cheney: tbc Long Crendon invited league leaders to the Recreation Ground on Saturday, for what were perfect conditions for a football match. The sun was out, pitch nice and soft, and a cool breeze swept the pitch. Crendon set their stall out to be difficult to beat, and for a top vs. bottom encounter they were holding their own. But no Long Crendon game this season has gone by without their keeper being called into action, and James Bartington was proving difficult to beat even pulling off a triple save as the match wore on, which had to be seen to be believed. But Cheney were able to find a way past him, and two well taken finishes put pay to Crendon s resilience. Half time: Long Crendon 0 Middleton Cheney 2 Continued
It wasnt long into the second half, that Middleton Cheney had grabbed a third, but they werent to have it all their way, as Crendon pegged them back soon after, the returning Tom Davies cutting in from the left to supply Chris Scott with the ball on the edge of the box and with a neat trap of the ball and a firm low shot Scott left a static Cheney keeper wondering what had happened. But Crendon were unable to shift the momentum back in their favour, and as too many games have gone this season, the side capitulated under the ever-increasing pressure of Middleton Cheney seeing Bartington valiantly beaten by three decent efforts all from a minimum of 12 yards. Cheney deserved their victory, and Crendon knew they had been outfoxed by a decent side who look set for a swift return to the Premier Division. Full time: Long Crendon 1 Middleton Cheney 6
