  3. Mission The Health and Human Services Council of Midland County promotes the welfare of the community through systems level planning, collaboration, and promotion of health and human services with an emphasis on demonstrated effectiveness and prevention.

Mental Wellbeing Data Points 2022 Midland County Health Survey (Adults) Depression increased from 26% in 2019 to 34% in 2022 Anxiety increased from 29% in 2019 to 41% in 2022 18.5% said that they were limited in activities due to emotional/mental problems 2022 Midland County Youth Survey Depression increased from 17% in 2016 to 28% in 2021 Suicide attempts increased from 14% in 2016 to 19% in 2021

Substance-free Resilience Data Points Tobacco and marijuana use increased since 2019 Cigarettes increased from 6.2% to 9.4% Vaping increased from 3.7% to 7.7% Medical Marijuana increased from 1.9% to 6.7% Recreational increased from 4.7% to 10.7% Increase in adults reporting negative consequences from alcohol use NARCAN (opioid overdose reversal) used in 115 emergency calls in 2022 11% of youth vape (3% of 6th graders, 24% of 12th graders) Youth perception of risk of marijuana use is lower than in previous years

  8. 8 Healthy Living Over 50% of those aged 45-54 have NEVER had any Colon Cancer Screening. Recommendation: Age 45 Less than 40% of those surveyed in 2022 met the physical activity guidelines

Substance-free Resilience 2022 Accomplishments Coalitions Consolidated coalitions to reduce redundancy Hosted first Youth Development Conference Social Norming Good To Know Campaign, promoting harm reduction for cannabis use Get Your Head out of the Clouds, educating youth about risks of vaping Opioids Established multidisciplinary Opioid Fatality Review team Conducted first OFR meeting

Healthy Living 2022 Accomplishments Hired a Food Navigator Assisted with SNAP benefits education at Farmers Market Provided sampling days Provided recipes Connected attendees to classes in the community Prescription for Health (Rx 4 Health) Increased number of classes held 57 attendees, 1,325 coupons provided, 84% redemption rate ($2,226) Health fair at Dow Diamond 300+ in attendance More than 20 booths providing education, resources, fitness classes & giveaways

Mental Wellbeing 2022 Accomplishments Behavioral Health Telehub Partnership: MyMichigan Health, Community Mental Health for Central Michigan & Ten16 Recovery Network 24/7/365 enhanced mental health crisis response in emergency department & follow up contacts Wellbeing Coalition Promoted wellbeing science, wisdom, & practices Enhanced overall mental wellbeing & prevention Comprehensive supports for Midland County schools students and staff Multi-level programming, staff training and direct services Increased behavioral health therapists in schools

Healthy Living 2023 Plans Increase knowledge and access to: physical activity, healthy eating, preventive health services Add physical activity elements to current events Enhance current physical activity offerings Sustain and grow Food navigator role Michigan State University Extension class offerings Promotion of vaccinations Provide education on preventive health services at current events
