Basic MLA In-Text Citation Rules In MLA style, referring to the works of others in your text is done by using what is known as parenthetical citation. This method involves placing relevant source information in parentheses after a quote or a paraphrase (Purdue OWL.com). General Guidelines The source information required in a parenthetical citation depends (1.) upon the source medium (e.g. Print, Web, DVD) and (2.) upon the source s entry on the Works Cited (bibliography) page (Purdue OWL.com). If you cite a source in your text, you must list that source on your Works Cited Page. And it must be the first item listed, farthest to the left (Purdue OWL.com). Go here for more examples of in-text citations: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/res ource/747/02/
2. Title of web page in quotes. No italics. 1. Author or editor (whatever you put between the parenthesis after the quote or paraphrase in your paper.) 3. Title of website. Use Italics. 4. Date the website was last updated or revised by author/editor. Purdue OWL. MLA In-Text Citations: The Basics. Purdue Online Writing Lab. 06 19 2000. Web. Purdue University, 4 December 2013. https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resou rce/747/02/ 7. URL of cite (usually optional). 5. Name of Publishing Organization . 6. Date you visited the cite. Use their date format.
MLA Format: www.citationmachine.com For book, type in ISBN #. Presto! Your citation is magically made for you. For website use Son of Citation Machine. Enter information and click the button. You still might have to find your ruler. Reverse indentation gets lost with copy and paste
I used the citation machine website as example and pushed button. Presto! (See highlighted citation).
