MODERN STUDIES Study tips: Higher

EXAM OUTLINE The total mark allocation is 110. This is split in to three components examinations. Paper 1 (essays) - 52 marks, 1 hour and 45 minutes Paper 2 (skills) 28 marks , 1 hour and 15 minutes Assignment (report completed in class)- 1 hour 30 minutes
PAPER 1 This paper is made up of three essays. Two 12 mark essays. (Evaluate, Analyse) One 20 mark essay. ( To what extent) Based on three topics covered in class. Roaming 20 marker.
PAPER 2 This is based on three skills questions Objectivity (10 marks) Conclusions (10 marks) Reliability (8 marks) No KU needed only skills. Hooks, synthesis. Army training.
ASSIGNMENT TIPS Pupils panic This is not History- NOT AN ESSAY!!!! Set structure with headings given Source sheet must be sent no copying WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ DRAFTS.. Practice, practice, practice Above average for Scotland
TOPICS At higher we cover three units. World Power The USA Social Inequality Democracy in Scotland and The UK
TIPS Reading around the topic Utilising feedback, timed practice. Using RHS notes Follow structure Highlighters. DO NOT GET A TUTOR!! Approach your teacher- revision classes used all the time.
