  1. Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research Salahaddin University - Hawler College of Engineering Department of Architecture TEACHER-CENTERED AND STUDENT- CENTERED APPROACH By: Nashmil Shwan Abdulrahamn 2023-2024

  2. The educational system has different address but can be said that teaching method as teacher- centered approach and student-center approach. Teacher centered approach Student- Center it is called a Learning- system which means that student casts the lecture in a discussion with the teacher in a small groups it is called a Teaching- system which means that lecture is given by the teacher in a large group.

  3. STUDENT -CENTERED LEARNING Student-centered learning, broadly encompasses methods of teaching that shift the focus of instruction from the teacher to the student. In original usage, student-centered learning aims to develop learner autonomy and independence by putting responsibility for the learning path in the hands of students. In a student-centered learning, students choose what they will learn, how they will learn, and how they will assess their own learning. In a teacher-centered classroom, teachers choose what the students will learn, how the students will learn, and how the students will be assessed on their learning.

  4. Teacher center approach Negative points Students are fully focused on teachers knowledge and the information that will be provided through the lesson. Discourage cooperation between because students alone. Teacher center approach does not allow students to express themselves and interrupt the teacher by asking a question when he/she wants. Make a affiliate person who usually likes to follow someone Make a Selfish person. students work Makes a frightened-personality for student.

  5. Positive Points in addition to the thinking of some teachers: The Teacher can easily control the class. It is easier for the teacher to explain his information without discussing the student's entire information. The lecture take less time because the teacher has only discussed his subject. Student center approach Positive points This approach encourages students to research and gather different ideas and topics, and curriculum up-to-date and enjoyable. it is a way to improve the students responsibility for sharing their information. There is an equal interaction between students teachers, which encourages student to improve their communication skills. Make a Creative Person. makes the Make a Collaborative person. and Makes strong personality. an independent and

Barriers to apply the student- centered Approach: Teacher experience Student experience The curriculum is an obstacle to applying the learned approach, for example when a student goes to college, he must have prior knowledge of the profession. Shy students may suffer from group work this may considered as negative point for student centered approach. The teacher usually imagines that the student must bring the correct information. The teacher can not control the classroom easily.

  8. In conclusion, both of learning approaches have positive and negative side. Teaching does not have to be either teacher-centered or student- centered, may be a continuum between both, applying each one depend on the diverse teaching styles and classroom settings.
