Morning Report Presentation Expectations
Each morning report will include a 1-hour case presentation led by an intern, facilitated by the CMR, with teaching slides prepared by the senior team member. Cases must be identified and relayed to CMRs in advance. Copies and pasting are prohibited. Approval is needed for medical students to present.

General expectations Each MR will have one 1-hour-long presentation The case should be presented by the intern and discussion will be facilitated by the CMR Teaching slides will be prepared and presented by the team senior Case should be identified and relayed to the CMRs 72 hours prior to the morning report day; slides should be prepared and sent to the CMRs 48 hours in advance If no case is selected by 72 hours, the CMR will choose a case for the residents to present If slides are not received within the expected time frame, the senior resident will be expected to facilitate the discussion for the case instead of the CMR
General expectations- cntd. If a medical student is interested in presenting part of morning report, approval should be obtained from one of the CMRs first. No copying and pasting is allowed from resources, rather rephrasing in one s own words. Pictures and algorithms are allowed to be copied, granted the source is mentioned.

Histories Medical: seasonal allergies, asthma Surgical: tonsillectomy @4yo Social: nonsmoker, no EtOH use, college student, lives in dorm Sexual: active with one F partner, consistent use of barrier protection, HIV last year was ve Medications: prn Claritin, prn albuterol Allergies: penicillin causes a rash
Physical exam Vitals: T, BP, HR, RR, SATs, Wt Rest of exam: ADD ONLY THE PERTINENT POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES!!!
Investigations (labs/imaging) done for your pt
Hospital Course What the investigations showed and how you managed the pt. Can be more than one slide depending on the length of stay and the complexity of the case.
Cost Effectiveness If possible, present info about labs/imaging/procedures that were done that were not practice changing. Add how much each cost and note how much money would have been saved if a more intuitive medical thought process was put into the management.
Educational slides Focus on select aspect of the disease, such as pathophysiology, presentation, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis. Do not cover EVERYTHING! Have 2-3 clinical questions that you answer in an evidence-based way. 5-6 bullet points per slide. Don t jam your slides with words!!! (see next slide). You can hold cards and use them to talk. Don t copy and paste from other resources!
Compare the 2 examples: Bad slide: Good slide: The first pizza ever made was in Italy many many centuries ago, someone was hungry and they had some flour, experimented with adding milk, water, oil, yeast, sugar, then came up with dough, thought dough and tomatoes would make a good mix, so added the two together and, voila!, the oven was already warm, then they invited friends from France and gave them a sample to take back home. Pizza is composed of dough, tomato sauce, and other rich ingredients. Typically round in shape Comes in many flavors The extra carbs are so worth it.
Healthcare Disparities If possible, add some statistics comparing how healthcare provided to/available for minorities.
