  1. Welcome to the MOTOR LAB!!!

Ready Bodies, Learning Minds by Athena Oden, PT Pushing children to perform academic tasks at a young age, especially pencil and paper tasks, will increase the likelihood that they will build these skills on immature, faulty backgrounds. Provide them with experiences to increase the likelihood of their success by developing their sensory and motor systems to their fullest. Give them time to grow, develop, and learn about their bodies..

Ready Bodies, Learning Minds by Athena Oden, PT http://www.readybodies.com/ Can be used for ALL students special education, at-risk, and regular education These activities are designed to stimulate and develop the reflex, tactile, proprioceptive, vestibular, visual and auditory systems. Many ACADEMIC skills are motor based. Handwriting sitting still paying attention Speaking behavior This is not intended to be a replacement for Physical Education . Research and evidenced based

  4. Research Doctoral Dissertation reported by Ready Bodies Learning Minds: Children who attended the motor lab 20 minutes every other day 70% increase in reading proficiency in elementary children Also positive effect on behavior

Other Research 8 week research project at FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY 4 Kindergarten classes: each class was divided into control or experimental Divided equally by sex and special needs 7% increase difference in handwriting legibility in experimental group compared to control group IN ONLY 8 weeks! 6% increase difference in academic behaviors (using the SAEBR screening) 9% increase difference in letter identification

  6. Who can use it? Entire class Small groups of students Use it for RTI purposes (level 1, 2, or 3) Use 1 or 2 of the centers IN your classroom ALL GRADES will enjoy this!

  7. How do you use it? 1. Watch the video with your class 2. Assign students to their first student before you arrive 3. Separate students into groups of 2 (if whole class) 4. Set timer for 1 minute 20 seconds (the group of 2 will share this time at each center) 5. Timer stops. FREEZE HUG YOURSELF Point to your next center WALK 6. Every two weeks the centers will change
