About Mrs. Thomas I am so excited to be a part of your school year! My name is Mrs. Thomas and I am from Nebraska. I have been teaching for many years all around the United States (Texas, Kansas, California, Washington DC, Iowa, and now Alabama). Here at PHS, I teach espa ol 2 and English 12. I love traveling, music, and learning more about technology. Meeting new people is important to me so that I can keep growing as a person. I can t wait to meet you and help you be successful your year here at PHS and beyond.
Communication There are several ways to communicate with me in this unique year here at PHS. Email: dthomas@pelhamcityschools.org I will view and respond to emails from 7:15 - 3:30, M-F. Google Classroom: Code for class: In class or invitation Use for announcements, sending me questions on assignments, and enrichment activities Talking Points: Code to join: In class or invitation Talking points is an APP for communicating with your parents. I will put your parents phone numbers in the APP for this class.
Edgenuity & Google Classroom Edgenuity will be used for all your academic graded content. You will complete all of these via Edgenuity: Assignments Essays Quizzes Projects Assessments Semester Tests Google Classroom will be used for announcements, enrichment activities, agenda and MAJOR assessments.
Traditional Students At PHS: Be on time everyday. In your seat when the bell rings. Join Google Classroom and Talking Points Materials needed daily: Chromebook and charger Ear phones that plug into Chomebook Face mask Hand Sanitizer Personal electronics need to be put away during Spanish class: Phones, smartwatches, blue toothed earbuds Progress checks each class meeting to make sure you stay on target in Edgenuity. IMPORTANT so you are ready for posted EXAM dates. Edgenuity will not allow you to skip assignments Must complete content in order.
Virtual Students At HOME: Check Google Classroom and log into Edgenuity EVERY DAY - Mon through Fri Join Google Classroom and Talking Points Designate a specific time of your day to do Spanish Edgenuity work. Work in a learning space so you can concentrate Be diligent about staying on target with target date on Edgenuity. IMPORTANT so you are ready for posted EXAM dates. Edgenuity will not allow you to skip assignments Must complete content in order. * MAJOR ASSESSMENTS ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Being Successful 1st 2nd quarter 3rd 4th quarter quarter quarter Course Goals Speak Spanish Understand spoken content Build vocabulary to improve content knowledge and listening skills Understand the grammar of the Spanish language to enhance your writing How We Learn Edgenuity will teach you with an online teacher. You will watch videos, take notes, complete warm ups and online resource sheets to acquire the knowledge you need for tests. What is Expected 1. Listen to understand & play content over again as often as needed 2. Use the online resources 3. Do your best work daily & have a positive attitude. 4. Complete all assignments by target date 5. Contact me when you have questions Grading Policy INOW - 50% Major Assessments (via Google Classroom). Edgenuity = 40% Minor (all assignments, quizzes and tests - this is visible daily in Edgenuity. INOW - 10% Active Participation = Earn these points by completing Edgenuity assignments before MAJOR Assessment and Google Classroom Assignments
