My name is Danielle Nealis, and I this is my 24th year as a teacher, all of them in Yonkers. I am a product of the Yonkers Public Schools and I am glad to give back to my community in this way. I have two Masters Degrees: one in Educational Technology and the other in Administration and Supervision. I married my high school sweetheart, and we have two daughters. Our oldest is a freshman in college, and our youngest is a high school sophomore. We also have a dog named Fred. He s like having another kid . I love my job, and I treat your kids as if they are my own- never hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
SOCIAL STUDIES Ancient Civilizations MATH The Number System Fractions Decimals Negative Numbers Algebraic Expressions Equations and Inequalities Ratios and rates Percent Area Statistics ELA We learn a variety of skills and strategies using novel studies, comprehension passages, and Benchmark Advance. SCIENCE Middle School Next Generation Science Standards
All work submitted is read. Some assignments will have grades, and some will not. There is usually feedback on the assignments with suggestions to implement in the future. Do not get hung up on a grade, when I complete report cards, it is a total reflection of your child s work, their effort and preparedness, and their participation.
There will be homework given each day. It will usually be reading and comprehension questions, and math questions that reinforce the daily class lesson. On occasion, there will be science and/or social studies homework. It may be a comprehension assignment, or it may be in the form of a project or presentation. Homework should be submitted daily, and if not done, should be made up as soon as possible. No one gets a pass unless there are extenuating circumstances, and even then it should be made up when possible.
School begins at 8:35, regardless of whether we are remote or in person. Attendance is taken right away, and you will be marked absent if you are not there. A solution is to try logging in a few minutes before so you know that you are there on time! When absent, work is still posted and should be made up wherever possible. I am always available for questions via Teams or email.

We are in a very unique situation. Every day we are learning how to tweak this to work for us most effectively. In a few short weeks, we have established a routine, we can navigate teams, and we are able to hold class in a way that allows for the kids to share and show their personalities. For better or for worse, this is our family this year, and Mrs. Gifford and I are committed to making it a great one for you and your children. Regardless of how we execute material, this children will learn the skills they need to be productive members of society, and will have the knowledge to move up to seventh grade. Learning looks different on different people. They will ALL get there!
