  1. Meet the Teacher My name is Mrs. Heibeck and I will be your math teacher this year. A little bit about myself I am married, and have two daughters. I have a dog named Moose and a leopard gecko named Leo. degrees in Education and Gifted Education. Prior to teaching, I worked for many years in the banking and brokerage industry. I have an extensive background in math along with two Masters have taught reading, math, science, social studies, and spelling so although you will not be graded on several of those areas, I still expect written responses to be grammatically correct including spelling and punctuation. I have taught various grade levels and subjects over 13 years. I related to math. This year we are going to work together and succeed as a TEAM. Class Syllabus Instructor: Mrs. Heibeck Email: Jennifer.Heibeck@slps.org School phone number: (314) 773-0027 Course Description: A Springboard classroom is an environment that supports high expectations for all students as they develop solving, critical thinking, and reasoning skills. Objectives/Goals: Writing algebraic models from a variety of physical, numeric, and verbal descriptions. Solving equations using a variety of methods. Justifying answers using precise mathematical language. Relating constant rate of change to verbal, physical, and algebraic models. Using technology to solve problems. Reinforcing and extending the vocabulary of probability and statistics. Standards: The course you are enrolled in aligns with the Missouri Learning Standards which can be found at https://dese.mo.gov/college-career- readiness/curriculum/missouri-learning-standards#mini- panel-mls-standards2 Supply list Pencils with erasers Notebook and folder just for math Red or blue pen EXPO markers Disinfectant wipes Tissues Recommended: Scientific calculator (TI-30XS is sufficient.)

  3. Classroom Expectations We are a team. Respect your peers. Respect your teacher. Be open to everyone s opinion and ideas. We learn from our mistakes. We are not perfect. It s OK to make a mistake- that s how we LEARN! Try, try, try and try again! You will get it! Pencils and erasers will be your best friend. We always try our best. Always do your own best work! The quality of work is better than just getting it done . Be proud of your work. We celebrate and value everyone s success! We can achieve great things if we support each other. You can t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. Try to be a rainbow in someone s cloud. -Maya Angelou

  4. Classroom Procedures Beginning of class Come to class prepared with all iPad (charged), and assigned independent work. Be aware of the Do Now activity on the screen, and answer in the allotted time. Independent work should be completed and turned into Teams prior to the start of class. If you had questions on the assignment, please have them ready so we can go over them. all materials; pencil, paper, During class Please be respectful of your peers and teacher during class of their opinions or answers during instruction and discussion. During instruction, please pay attention. New skills and concepts will be covered every class period, so it s imperative you are following along to be sure you can complete the independent work after you leave class. Please do not distract others during instruction, because you and others will not be learning! End of class Stay at your seat and work on asynchronous work until you are dismissed. Absent Work It is your Homework is due based on the number of days your absent. Ex: 1 day absent, 1 day to complete homework Tests: you will complete tests in a timely manner. It is your responsibility to study and be prepared, even if you re absent during a class period. your responsibility to obtain any missed work.

Classroom Procedures Grading Scale A B C D F 100%-90% 89%-80% 79%-70% 69%-60% 59% or below Grading The Saint Louis Public School District requires teachers to use the online grading format SIS Parent Portal. This is an account that is set up by the district, and will be used by all teachers at McKinley. This online tool is essential for families to utilize in order to monitor student progress. To view grades you must log into SIS Parent Portal. SIS Parent Portal will also have the most up-to-date grades for students. Homework will account for 10% of your grade. Formative assignments will make up approximately 40%. Summative assessments (tests) will make up approximately 50% of the student s grade.

  6. Communication & Discipline Communication I encourage all parents to be involved in their student s education and communicate with me if your child is having difficulty with any of the skills and concepts being covered in class. Some important things to remember: Make sure your child is completing assigned work and turning it in as directed. Be aware and involved in what your child is learning in class. Discipline Students are expected to follow classroom rules and procedures along with the SLPS District guidelines. Failure to do so will result with the following disciplinary actions. *1st offense- verbal reminder *2nd communication with parents/guardians *3rd referral to administration
