NATIONAL HONORS SOCIETY INTRODUCTION Advisers: Ms. Lerma and Mr. To
What is NHS? Since 1921, the National Honor Society (NHS) has been working with advisers and principals to recognize students who demonstrate and are committed to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character in school settings. This handbook, along with our online Adviser Resource Center and National Customer
Why was I selected? You have been selected to become a member of NHS because of your school spirit and your exemplary dedication to your studies by obtaining a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
What does my membership entail? As a junior and first year member, you will work alongside an NHS senior to give back to the school and community. This project is called a service project and the hours you complete can be used on college applications and applications for scholarships. Juniors are responsible for completing 10 service project hours. As a senior and second year member, you will create your own senior service project and will work with juniors in the program to complete. These hours can also be used on college and scholarship apps. Seniors are responsible for completing 30 service hours. All students must also complete 10 tutoring and/or community service hours a semester.
How do I join? Go on to our school website and locate the NHS tab under academics. Read through the NHS Handbook and decide whether NHS is right for you. If you would like to join, fill out the Google Form application on the website. You will be notified by May 30thof your acceptance status. Remember, as an NHS student, you must continue to hold a GPA of 3.7 or higher or you will be released from the program. Please direct any questions to: Breanne_Lerma@chino.k12.ca.us
