National Organizations for Midwifery (There are no local organizations in North Dakota) By: Sherrica Blackmon
National Black Midwives Alliance To join, you must be a black midwife, student midwife, or an ally/supporter. Their purpose is to grow development, preservation, advocacy, and education of the Black midwifery work force in the U.S. There are no projects at the moment. Their goals are to increase the number of and access to Black midwives, support legislative efforts led by Black midwives and supporters, and to advocate for and support the development of educational pathways for Black student midwives. https://blackmidwivesalliance.org/
International Confederation of Midwives To join, there are nine requirements to become a full member which can be found in their membership brochure to include: Be within a country that registers midwives and/or legally licenses to practice, Be able to pay membership fees, and be within a country with pre-service Midwifery Education Programs. Their purpose is to strengthen Midwives Associations and to advance the profession of midwifery globally by promoting autonomous midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women and in keeping birth normal, in order to enhance the reproductive health of women, their newborns, and their families. At the moment, there are no on-going project but there are previous projects along with the results listed under Projects. Their goals are to see a world where every childbearing woman has access to a midwife s care for herself and her newborn. https://www.internationalmidwives.org
Association of Radical Midwives To join, you must pay a membership fee and be any person with an interest in pregnancy, birth, babies, maternity services and/or maternity policy. Their purpose is to provide support, information, leadership and practical assistance for midwives, and others so that maternity services are woman-centered, compassionate, and human-scaled. They have a project that is campaigning for Better Midwifery Regulation. For those without a membership, they are encouraged share their page on social media. Their goals are for autonomous, empowered midwives to be able to support women s choice in childbirth. https://www.midwifery.org.uk
Citizens for Midwifery Upon viewing the website, you would need to contact the organization about membership. Their purpose is to provide information and resources that promote the local midwife, as well as midwives and midwifery care across the country. At this time, there are no projects. Their goals are to work to change factors that restrict access to midwifery and the Midwives Model of Care. https://www.citizensformidwifery.org/home-1
Midwives Alliance North America To join, you can be a midwife, student midwife or affiliate, or a supporter and pay a membership fee. Their purpose is to unite, strengthen, support and advocate for the midwifery community and to promote educational, economic, and cultural sustainability of the midwifery profession. There are several projects being worked on in maternal-infant health and midwifery care. Their goals are envisioning Midwifery as a thriving, diverse, autonomous profession in service to families throughout North America. https://mana.org
National Association of Certified Professional Midwives To join, you must be a CPM, student midwife, or be a member of the public who supports NACPMs work. Their purpose is to be a powerful, collective voice for CPMs. They strengthen and support excellence in the profession and influence birth health policy to ensure that all childbearing people and babies have a healthy start. There are numerous projects that NACPM implemented on order to achieve its vision and fulfill its purpose. They can be found on the website. Their goals are for all birthing people to have access to care through a midwife, where the birthplace is choice of the family, and where all childbearing people and their babies have the same chance to be healthy. https://nacpm.org
