The report highlights the latest hydrographic survey and charting progress in Antarctica, including new charts produced and areas surveyed. It discusses the publication of Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) and paper charts by Japan, as well as planned activities for 2019-2020. The challenges faced due to the damaged multibeam sonar of the Japanese icebreaker Shirase are also addressed, with plans for resuming surveys in December 2019.

  5. Areas Surveyed Due to damage of multibeam sonar of Japanese icebreaker Shirase , Japan has not been able to conduct hydrographic surveys in Antarctic region since 2014. The multibeam sonar will be repaired in 2019 and JHOD will resume hydrographic surveys in Antarctic region in December 2019.
